None of you answered the question. Yes, it is physicaly OK to breed a dog on it's first heat. Won't hurt her at all. Happens with livestock and wildlife all the time.

Chop, I would trust what your vet tells you more than anything you read on the computer.

Sounds to me like she is gun shy. Tie her out and shoot near her and see what happens. If that is what the problem is, it isn't hard to fix. Search some of these forums for "gun shy" and you will get all the advise you can stand, both good and bad ;)

I'm suprised almost no one has mentioned the biggest cause of kidney failure in hounds. Running your dogs in hot weather will damage their kidneys. Do it enough and they will die from it. It often catches up with them about 5 - 8 years old. Don't take my word for it, ask your vet. While you are ther...
