Re: Running a pack on hare in deep snow

For me a beagle ought to be up on legs, deep chested - not wide chested. They should be somewhat long bodied as opposed to short coupled. A short coupled dog has to run that much more. A beagle is a running hound and should have the appearance of athleticism and the physicality to run all day. Bott...

Re: Whats the youngest age u have ever seen a pup start runn

norwester, great video. my question is how did those pups turn out? just curious. Sam, we ended up with only two that suited us. In the first video the little bitch my son carries down the driveway, Crash, and her sister Jet, the little white (open marked) pup made the grade. Here's a clip from Jan...

Re: success in snow

It varies. There are guys that will hunt/run in anything. Then there's the rest that make excuses for not going out, snow's too deep, too cold, too windy, too dry, too wet...etc, etc

Re: Lesson Learned...

I had been banned from the hunted hare over our discussion on small running hare and how i couldn't understand the nature of running hare because I didn't live in a north boarding State, how silly is that? but anyway, that is the only reason for that little comment to have been added and chris know...

Re: Breeding From the Best Without Regard to Bloodlines

Personally speaking..... I favour breeding for traits and characteristics first. The bloodline is an afterthought. If you're selecting all your stock from dogs that display the same traits descended from the same, why would the bloodline matter? Truth is there are all kinds of dogs being bred from t...

Re: Soloing a dog

John, feel more than free to critique and pass judgement to your heart's desire. Everyone gets a chance to shine and/or look the fool on video ;) If I had more collars I likely would try and run more hounds. Bud knows what he's doing and runs a strong pack of hounds, you may very well be correct. No...

Re: Soloing a dog

Norwester, As you have acknowledged before it's a percentage game. I have had some very nice hounds that I was generally satisfied with that I had to let go. If I took everything you have been working towards the last 20 years and you had to start from scratch I'm certain you would have some frustr...
