Unregistered gundog seeking hunter, AR

I've got a 3 yo hound, all beagle but oversized, about 17 inches. All he wants to do is hunt. He is soft mouthed and has caught me rabbits, live. He points quail if he's not on the trail of rabbits but I've not known him to run deer. Here's the thing. When we got him I didn't think we were getting t...

Re: moved to town

There's this citronella collar you can get here pretty cheap

http://www.amazon.com/Premier-Spray-Sen ... B0002D31QU

Haven't used one myself, but have a friend who swears by it. Apparently dogs just hate that smell.

Good e-collar for less then 150??

I know this is a long shot, but I really need an e collar and only have 150 to spend. That probably means a second-hand one, but where do I look and what do I look for? Any suggestions appreciated. What I need it for is mostly recall work, not at any huge distance. Also, he is very distractable. Whe...

Re: Need help, got puppies with fleas!!!

As a former dog groomer, best gentle, flea shampoo is this. Find an empty bottle with a squirt top that holds about 2 cups of water. Empty, cleaned out dish soap bottle is perfect. Put in 1/2 cup of oatmeal baby shampoo About 7 or 8 drops of Essential Oil of Pennyroyal (get from health food places, s...

Re: Anyone near Fulton County Ark?

Mapquest says Van Buren is over 4 hours. :(
We are near Ash Flats and only about 45 minutes from Thayer, Mo and Mountain Home, Ark.

Anyone near Fulton County Ark?

I would love to find someone to take a young hound and hunter out. DD wants to hunt with her hound, she doesn't need to shoot anything herself, just wants to run that dog. Scooter Beagle is 22 months and we've barely had him out (I had a baby, kept me distracted, lol) So lately he has decided to tak...

Re: Too late to start?

Those are some cute dogs Gbeagle! I have to say that I am hooked on these little guys now that I know what a good one can be like. I train dogs (pets and obedience) and was never very impressed with them before, but these that are bred for a purpose have a whole different personality. I've got to ge...

Re: Too late to start?

Thanks guys! He's from working dogs and I'm very impressed with his smarts compared to the akc only beagles I've had anything to do with. I think he'd do well if I only knew what the heck I was doing and could get him on some rabbits. Dixie, I was told that I should try to bring him out once or twic...

Too late to start?

I have a 14 month old beagle who through no fault of his own hasn't really been started on rabbits. Last fall I had him chasing toys with rabbit scent pretty enthusiastically, but he only got to run one real bunny in the field. I think he did pretty well with it but it was one of the last times I ha...

Re: A little help please

Thanks for the peroxide tip! I'll remember that.

He hasn't passed anything yet, but he is his usual bright, perky self. He scarfed his dinner as usual last night and is hanging on the couch with my daughter right now. I'll give him a little more PJ in a while to make sure everything comes out ok.

Re: Help me please

Is he fixed? If not he's feeling his oats and probably spoiling to prove himself as top dog. So you might want to look into that and then you can take a look at the long-winded post I wrote to "mean beagle puppy" before I realized the op was months old.

Re: Mean beagle puppy

All isn't lost. When our beagle was 9 weeks old he made a play to rule the roost. I went to move him off the couch and the little bugger nailed me! Drew blood. I growled like a momma dog and shook his scruff as described above and the little turd went for me again. So I swooped him up, sat down and ...

Re: A little help please

Thanks guys. I got some advice to wait an hour and see if he throws it up on his own and if not (he didn't) to tear some cotton balls into little pieces and get petroleum jelly on them and feed him that. The theory is that the cotton will bind anything sharp an the PJ will ease it through, so that's...
