Re: TATTOO'S ON DOGS

In Canada, we've been required to tattoo our hounds for many years (more than 50) and just recently have been allowed the choice of tattooing or microchipping. In my opinion, throw away the black ink. The green is far better (longer lasting, easier to read). Most of us tattoo pups when they're 6 wee...

Re: MUD RIVER'S MY GIRL POPEYE

Branko just finished a nice 15" male in Canada out of her and Lumberjack. This male's name is FTCH Branko's Lumber's Last Dance and he's a very nice running big male. He runs the line and is very consistent in trials (placed almost every time out). Good looking too. Norm Tustin handled him to his FT...

Re: tryin to improve my above grounds

My buddy, who lives in town, had a sheet metal fabrication place make him galvanized metal pans (with 1" folded edges) to fit under his wire runs. He hung these off metal straps that tilted the pans towards the front and to one side, where they ran into a plastic pan he'd empty daily. He said they g...

Re: Tracker VS Garmin

With the Garmin, you could have dozens (I don't know how many really, but I think it would be limitless) of your buddies tracking your dog, as long as they all touched their units to your collar before you started out (that's all it takes to add a collar to the unit). Each unit holds ten hounds (or ...

Re: Tracker VS Garmin

After I got my Garmin Astro, I sold my Tracker 5000. My buddy also got one at the same time and is selling his Wildlife 1000 and all collars. The market will be flooded with telemetry equipment after hound people see the Garmin in action. I used mine at the Canadian Nationals LPH Trial this past wee...

Canadian National LPH Trial This Weekend

I'm leaving today (900 miles one way) for a trip to Fundy Trail Beagle Club in St. John, New Brunswick to attend the Canadian National LPH trial on Oct. 25/26/08. All USA FC's, FTCH's and the top hounds in each class at Canadian trials are eligible to run here. We've had really good chases at this c...

Re: AKC Field Champion, you should be proud

Since I record the results of every LPH beagle trial in Canada, I see this a lot. It irks me even more to see the other shortcuts these owners take when filling out the entry forms for their hounds. They often print Heli-Prop instead of IFC Branko's Heli-Prop and expect the club secretary to guess w...

Re: branko's extra trim

I'll tell you an interesting story about Extra Trim. I ran her here in Canada for Branko, and thought I'd finished her by late October. It got too cold to ship her back to Branko, so I had her all winter. In April, Branko called to tell me that she still needed one (1) point to finish as a FTCH (he'...

Re: New Garmin Astro (Review)

Yes, both units (Astro 220 and D-30 collar) have to receive a satellite signal in order to communicate with each other. The Astro 220 will usually pick up the signal indoors, but I don't think the collar will. However, I can always read where the hound is, when I come indoors for lunch (and the houn...

Re: GPS reviews...

For me, Garmin are the most "user friendly". Also, the newest ones are much easier on batteries than the older ones. If I were you, and used it for simply finding my way back, I'd get the simplest one available, but there's nothing like seeing the Topo maps on a screen to help you navigate, or perha...

Re: Bloodlines ?

Nor 'Easter, I have wondered, too, if the slower dog with its nose to the track has a superb nose or just has a good nose but is closer to the smell. Its an interesting question. I have seen faster dogs though that could run in real bad conditions where I knew they had a superb nose. I've seen this...

Re: New Garmin Astro (Review)

To fasttrack pa; Here is an e-mail I received this afternoon from Garmin Customer Service (the first info I got was via a phone call. "Thank you for contacting Garmin International. Unfortunately, there are no plans at this time to change or alter the DC30 collar system. The DC 30 collar systems are...

Re: New Garmin Astro (Review)

That's the trouble with a lot of Customer Service Reps, they don't know diddly about the product. For all I know, they work out of call centers in India or China? Anyway, I used the outfit at a LPH trial today and it was very impressive. Our trial was pretty short because the running was great and w...
