Re: Too Cold For Me

Got the hounds out a few times this past week. -0’s , to high of 12 on the few trips. We ran several to hole. Plenty of game out. Never more than one circle on the wind chisled snow. Running was prob the best it could have been considering conditions. Putting the hounds up for a week in favor of som...

Re: pressure on a rabbit

I’m thinking they are specifically alluding to rabbits on the beagle club grounds ??? Perhaps thinking , to many hounds putting to much pressure on them to often is gonna be detrimental to the population. Especially in the nesting season. ?? Otherwise during a pursuit, putting relentless hound press...

Re: Run to catch

Depending upon density of cover etc. When the scenting is strong , very few would live if they didn’t seek refuge. Its just a matter of time before they stiffen up. With warmer temps it can happen quickly. Also have noticed how the ticks have reduced durability of most rabbits hounds catch in the wa...

The club membership should sign hold harmless agreement when they join and pay dues. Releases the club of liability should they get injured...

Re: Derby Trials awarding points toward Field Champion

I believe that is Federation derby "Championship" trials only. Think we're only talking about a hanful of possible trials all yr that would conform. I haven't read the official release , but was passed this info back when being proposed. Of course ,Not fan of a more watered down system. To many tria...

Re: FLAVOR OF THE MONTH

I only ever heard of the "Flavor of the Month " at my local Dairy Queen. Def sounds like a cheap shot to any hound or line.I would rather consider breeding to the hound of the year or line of the decade ,that has offspring on the ground which run the way I like. But I think I understand what your tr...

Re: toughest to run and why, hare cottontail, swampers?

No difference to pursuit of any rabbit / hare species with respect to degree of difficulty . Every day decides its own fate. Now the ghost rabbit takes a special talent. My old Bill gyp was the best at it. Huge nose to cold trail or run in the toughest of conditions , dry or cold. On any other decen...

Re: Gearing Down Or Cold Trailing ?

The only way a hound knows their rabbit is up, is if it visually saw the fur ball off the jump etc. All other starts are determined by a hounds sensitivity to smell scent and draw a conclusion. They all have different levels. Most folks can determine the level of scent based on the dogs tone, volume...
