Re: Why ?

Snow depth could play a big factor I would think in the winter.

Beagles could become easy prey for wolves and mountain lions too!

Re: Run to catch

Maybe I’m the one miss understanding who the Friend/Hunting Buddy is that ShadyGrove is referring to, but my guess is it's the hunters hound/dog, not a human being!

Re: How many?

Hare don’t “pull stunts” to throw hounds of their trail. They are merely doing the same thing they do when being pursued by any other animal or bird of prey. Running for their life according to how eminent the danger is. Big runs on hare are usually caused by the hound or hounds able to apply enough...

Re: How many?

For the most part most game pursued by hounds will only run as far and as fast as it has to in order to eliminate the threat of becoming lunch! Wild animals dont expend any more energy than they have to in order to survive. Really good track dogs will make their own good running on good scenting day...

Glad you guys were able to save her. Had to be horrible for her and such a helpless feeling for her owner. I imagine he’s pretty thankful you were there to help.

Re: Run to catch

I always carry my Victorinox multi-tool on my belt. Very similar to a Leatherman.

Wire cutters built in along with several other features. I’m lost without it!

Re: Dog found 3 dead rabbits in 18” of snow today

Weasel. Often no sign or very minimal sign of blood. They’ll kill seemingly for the fun of it. They’ll decimate a pen of pet or meat rabbits. Wipe out a flock of chickens too in a matter of a few minutes.

Re: Minimum size of a fenced pen for adult dog and cost?

Running your dogs in a pen with little cover will create habits you don’t want! i.e. when having a check they quickly learn to pick their head up and look for the rabbit/hare as opposed to staying in the check area looking for the line. They also learn to run all over the place helter skelter lookin...

Re: Any One still Old School with collars

I bought my first tracking collars (Wildlife) in Jan. 2000. I lost a young female Beagle on Dec. 31st 1999 for 21 days. I live in NH and there were several nights below 0° in that 3 week span. I went everyday looking for her. Finally my hunting buddy was able to get her on the 21st day. I ordered my...

Re: which line....?

A good dog should run both well. Maybe some day I will get one :) Key word here being "Should"! That would be a rare find and I'd be very surprised if you or anyone else could ever reproduce that with any semblance of consistency. I've owned only one that would come close to being able to meet thos...

Re: Brinsky's Run-em Over Tank

Yup, the Bill Boatman Dynalite was my 1st light as well. I also discovered ther capable of knocking a dog out cold! Was coon hunting one night with a bunch of guys before I had any dogs of my own. One of the dogs was a 2 year old walker dog that weighed about 90 lbs. We were hunting a cornfield and ...
