Re: Summer feed

Not sure if I was among the class labeled as distinguished gentleman or not..................but here's my response: I've not been without at least (1) running hound, either beagle or coon hound, for 1 second of 1 day for the last 41 years. I've always fed my dogs in the same manner with the excepti...

Never switch feeds...just feed less....for me it works and the dogs also.....Good luck!
Ditto for me! I feed about 1/4 to 1/3 less in summer than I do in winter. Also found I was able to feed less in the winter months when I installed hound heaters in the dog boxes. Big difference!

Re: best run to catch style. (STUD)

Regarding the Garmin and mph readings.........remember.........miles per hour may represent speed but it does not always represent accuracy or efficiency. The dog that runs the line with accuracy will be more efficient than the dog that gets wide in the check area consistently. The line running dog ...

Re: best run to catch style. (STUD)

Not sure what "I own this type of dogs" means. To some the first thing they think of is speed. From my experience speed isn't as important as the ability to run with minimal to no losses. A dog or dogs that run together as a pack that can run with minimal losses at medium speed will run down a hare ...

Re: Need a class for oversize dogs?

Money is what talks. If AKC was that concerned about the breed standard as a whole no beagle would ever be officially registered until it was 2 yrs. old and had been measured by an official representative from AKC. Can you imagine the loss of revenue for them as well as the expense in sending reps.i...

Re: Need a class for oversize dogs?

Here's a couple of Swampman's culls he sent into the Norteast a couple years ago running a hare last Sat. morning. Gator was to big and Belle was to small! Gator is 18" at the shoulder and Belle 13-1/2". https://youtu.be/9qWHqYSPlCw As has been mentioned AKC doesn't mind taking people's money for re...

Re: Why always the sire?

Ever notice that if the litter doesn't turn out good it's often declared the sire's fault?? To many people think you can take any old female to an advertised big name stud and get great pups. Then there are those that feel it's not all that important that their females be proven in the field as long...

Re: Run to catch

I think these guys are talking about superb running conditions with footy dogs and on bare ground Dave with the exception of Swampman and I bet he doesn't need more than one hand to count the number of times he's had his dogs do that in the last 10 + years. Judging from what little I know about Swam...

Re: Run to catch

Sometimes we have to taste the bitter in order to more deeply savor the sweet. Loosing Bonnie was a bitter pill Rowdy yet the sweetness of experiencing what she left you with in these young dogs will cause you to joyfully remember her for many years to come. Glad you're enjoying these young dogs. I'...

Re: Run to catch

Nice picture Dana and I'm very happy you've got a "pack" that is making you happy. Can see the influence of Rainey in the conformation of Tess, Fly and Queenie and I would guess she gave them a good shot of endurance too! When you put down dogs with Shady's "pack" you can bet they'll be in it from s...

Re: The words we use

I like hounds that can "Get hooked up" on a hare track. A term we use a lot to describe dogs that can flat get after a hare and have long drives pushing them and forcing the hare to take bigger circles. They aren't plentiful but when you find the ones that can run like they're tied to the hare you'l...

Re: Can't unload your gun early nowadays....be safe...not sorry.

Most of these days we all carry phones with video capabilities. Were I accosted I would immediately pull out the phone and start the video recording. Quickly eliminates the he said she said stuff with first hand facts to show local law enforcement. That being said, my other hand would be resting on ...
