Re: Run to catch

Friends from New Hampshire Bob and Ryan Ferranti down for a week of rabbit hunting here in Tennessee. Brought 4 dogs with them.We hunted on a W.M.A.yesterday to stay away from the opening day muzzle loaders who were everywhere else. Don't know if that area has been pounded or what but rabbits were h...

Re: Abort Pregnancy

If the pups are unwanted let her have them and then dispose of them as soon as she is done having them. She'll dry up very quickly and this is probably better for her health wise then the mismate shot.
There's a good reason why MOST vets don't want to give the shot.

Re: Run to catch

Cool,foggy and wet ground.
Conditions like that you don't need a shotgun - 55 minutes of run to catch.
Biggest surprise was Queenie brought the rabbit to me from a fair distance away. She usually eats them !
Gun season doesn't open for almost another 2 weeks, but the dogs don't know that.

Re: slow starter/great finish!

We live in a culture these days that want everything "right now",micro wave, instant,no waiting,chop-chop,hurry it up,drive thru, instant log in,etc.,etc. This maybe works okay for technology, electronics and "fast food". Not sure how it's affecting us humans: more easily distracted, loss of patience?? ...

Re: slow starter/great finish!

I know this is a rabbit dog forum but in general hound dogs have a lot of the same attributes so here's a coonhound recollection from years ago. My buddy Frank picked up a 2 year old Bluetick hound out of the breeding he liked.Guy that had her said he hadn't done much with her and she hadn't shown h...

Re: Run to catch

Hey Daddy Rabbit. Good to hear from you.Sounds as if you are pretty well recovered from your surgery. Yes,the blue female is my Josie dog and she is the mother to your Spitfire pup. She's a VERY nice dog and can really drive a rabbit with accuracy. She's a grand daughter on her sire's side of I.F.C. G...

Re: Run to catch

Well I'm feeling pretty thankful. We've had some rain here finally and mornings have been in the 40's range with even a couple of light frosts on my truck windshield. Surprise,we even been getting some dew on the ground! This has definitely improved the running ! Most times I take all 4 of my dogs ru...

Re: First and Hopefully last experience with PAWS

Some years ago I had sold two pups to Greg Hooper here in east Tn.I had called Greg when the pups were about 8 months old to see how they were turning out.He said they were doing great and he was very pleased with them. I called again when they were about 1 1/2 years old and Greg told me a story ver...

Re: Run to catch

Still no rain here.Been 45 days since we had rain and it's also been a stretch of days in the 90's day after day. No dew on the ground in the mornings. You can tell the folks who live out in the country on a gravel road as their cars are covered in dust. Needless to say the running hasn't been the b...

Re: Blowing a hole

Without knowing anything about your hound I'd say it probably is how he's bred. I know how hot and dry it has been and scenting has been very tough but if a hound can smell it enough to open then he ought to be able to move it. I prefer a hound to keep his mouth shut until he can do something with i...

Re: Run to catch

Beagle Huntsman You'll notice in my previous post that I did mention that the dogs had their struggles on several rabbits. Don't ever want to give the impression that I have super dogs that never struggle in certain conditions-- they do. But you hit the nail on the head when you listed the qualifica...

Re: Run to catch

Got up early this morning and figured I'd try and get some running in on my hounds before it warmed up.Left the house and it was 62 degrees but calling for another 90+ degree day. Running has been very tough here the past 5-6 weeks. We haven't had a drop of rain since August 28 and it's been 90 or b...

Re: Buyer beware

Selling broke hounds can be a very strange business and one that over 45 years of keeping my own dogs I've tried to stay away from. The few adult hounds that I have sold over the years have almost always been males. Why? Because I don't care to keep male dogs. There have been a couple litters where I ...

Re: Buyer beware

Rabbithoundjb Hey James that 's the kind of news I love to hear about a dog raised here. Dan's litter mate sister my Queen dog is really showing out these days. She's quick, accurate and a check dog. Most times now she runs the front on her 3 older kennel mates. Two of the litter mate males are up in P...

Re: Buyer beware

Hey Daddy Rabbit So glad to hear that the "Spitfire" pup is doing so well for you.Hearing some similar comments from ones that have his littermates. Although I've never lost money on a dog deal I certainly have experienced a ton of frustration when selling a litter of pups. If folks would just be ho...
