Re: Little pack x UBGF

When I moved to Tennessee from New Hampshire 22 years ago I brought 3 beagles with me.They were all of northern New England and Canadian hare breeding and none of them had ever seen or run a cottontail before. They had no trouble jumping cottontails but were running them kind of rough and I felt I w...

Re: Is it tick cold

Moose are dying in the north country in the middle of winter and are covered in ticks.Friend who lives up there told me they have found where the moose have rubbed themselves raw in places cause of the ticks.Doesn't sound like the cold affects that variety anyways.

Re: Too Cold For Me

I hear ya Ron.My son and I had a real good hunt yesterday with temps.in mid 30's.Dogs ran super. I used to go hunting in New Hampshire on snow shoes when the temps. were around zero.No more. Nowadays when it gets below 25 degrees I don't care much about being out in the field.Tennessee's average win...

Re: Run to catch

Got some sad news yesterday from my buddy Jonah Staten in Ohio. Staten's Blue Samurai passed away at 10 years old.Had the opportunity to run with Sam half a dozen times and he was the real deal. I've owned a male out of Sam and currently have a daughter of his and a grand daughter out of his son tha...

Staten's Blue Samurai RIP

Heard from my good friend Jonah Staten today the sad news that his Sam dog had passed on at 10 years old. Sam was sired by World Champion and International Field Champion Greenwell's Reggie and out of Frazier's Big Shot Suzie [a line bred Jiggs female]. Sam was an outstanding rabbit hound with a rep...

Re: Run to catch

Thanks Ed. Yes she is a big girl, close to a full 15". In some ways I do miss Bomber as I had him from a pup and he is a good dog in the kennel and in the field. I don't like keeping a mixed sex kennel and dealing with that hassel and I like the personality of my girls better. I know where he is and ...

Re: Nose

Mr. Carder I too have watched some of your videos and I can definitely appreciate what your beagles are capable of. Reminds me of watching a Bloodhound work a man's track.Smelling every molecule of scent and never losing it. They are what the old timers here in Tennessee refer to as "beetles". As Ha...

Re: Run to catch

Here's a pic. of my 9 month old "run to catch" female Shady Grove's Samurai Queen. Queenie has been in on 5 of the 7 rabbits my dogs have run down and caught this Fall. Making a nice young rabbit dog that appears will have all the tools.Hearing similar things from guys that have her litter mates.Alw...

Re: Run to catch

Our gun season for rabbits is open but even so there's plenty of times during season when I'll leave the shotgun home. Sometimes it's because I just don't feel like toting it,other times cause I just don't want to kill rabbits out of the place I'm going to or like today--a small piece of ground with...

Re: pressure on a rabbit

Read the "Run To Catch" posting on here. Don't know what "too much pressure " is.
Over the past 50 years I've run hounds on most game chaseable and I ALWAYS want a hound to be putting pressure on it's game.
Constant pressure is what puts rabbits in the sack and game up a tree.

Re: Run to catch

Had super running most all day yesterday.Hunting on a big refuge with hundreds of acres of corn and lots of good cover. My son Zack was hunting with us and he got two,Bob shot two and I sho...
