Re: Couldn't find any rabbits?
By reading your description of the grounds, I assume the two areas are close together. Could it be that rabbits from area A were in area B for whatever reason, sunning in short grass, breeding, whatever? Where I run regularly rabbits are usually well dispersed, but occasionally when there is no acti...

Re: Shed Hunting Dogs (Antler Hunting dogs)
All the ones I have seen were labs. You train them the same as you would for retrieving any birds just use antlers in the training process. Start when they are pups, use antlers for chew toys, use small or broken antlers to start retrieval training. Then start hiding the antlers and reward the dog wh...

Shut down for a couple weeks
What are the chances? I have four dogs at this time, 3 females and 1 six month old male pup. My Northway female had pups last week, and within two days both Shooter females came in heat. The pup is at the starting pen, so looks like I am down just in time for cooler weather. Better now than December.

Re: Longevity question
pilotknob, You hit the nail on the head, these dogs are line bred Indian Hill. They never showed any signs of kidney failure or anything to give any warning. They did all die outside of dog house, leading me to think they may have been in some distress before death.

Longevity question
I know traits like size, nose power, line control, etc are all inherited. My question is, is longevity( life span ) also inherited? I have had 3 dogs from the same bloodline all die within a couple months either side of their 6th birthday. First was a female that was bred twice before she died at 6 yr...

I am truly saddened by the loss of Banjo. He was a very special dog. He was at his best when conditions were at their worst. I saw him at a trial in Berea in October of 2005. The temperature was about 80-85 degrees. It hadn't rained for about a month. Banjo jumped the rabbit and ran solo for about 1...
