There isn't a need to worry about show breeders understanding the need for function. What there is a need to worry about is that the function lacks definition. While the breed standard stipulates exactly what the dogs tail should be like, no where in the standard does it stipulate how the dog should...

but we shouldn't lose sight of what the breed was intended to do Absolutely no one disputes that. Reason being,,, anytime "function" is changed,,, "form" will follow, thus proper structure will be lost. With regard to field dogs the question we will eventually have to ask is "how is a Beagle suppos...

Stanima is the product of conditioning not breeding I could possibly believe that if I didn't run dogs as much as I do. I see it first hand and yes I can see by bloodlines. I have a couple of dogs you could lay up for a month and they'll still be running when others dogs have had enough. Dogs can't...

However, to leave stamina out as a trait Stanima is the product of conditioning not breeding I don't care what breeding a dog comes from, if it isn't run,,,, it can't run for long. Wanna see a dog run?? This one can http://www.hunt101.com/img/308687.jpg and this one can't http://www.hunt101.com/img...

Tom I have to disagree with you, I feel to be true to the roots of any breed they must be bred and raised to do what they where intended to do. I bet that most cattlemen would rather have a dog that can handle a herd of cattle, and could care less if they won a conformation show. I understand that ...

What is more important conformation or hunt? You can't say both, one has to be more important to each of us than the other. I vote a resounding hunt hunt hunt. It's why they came into existence, it's what they have been used for centuries to do, it's what they where bred to do. Actually no,,,, one ...

Why would anyone who desires to breed hunting beagles ever start with anything with a BRACE background? I'm not trying to criticize your method, but my goodness, there are plenty of people out there who have been crossing show lines on GOOD hunting stock, and doing it for years and years. Why try t...

Patch, you are aware that a beagle won BIS at Cruft last year. But I do know full well what you are saying because I have been going to field trials of one kind or another since I was a kid (40s), and this Tom, A beagle got a group 3 at the Crufts show last year. I think the Australian Shepherd fro...

The hunting packs in the UK show their hounds once a year at the different shows. Patch, you are aware that a beagle won BIS at Cruft last year. But I do know full well what you are saying because I have been going to field trials of one kind or another since I was a kid (40s), and this argument is...

The one thing I would disagree with Patch is that your comments would tend to throw the same blanket over everyone that shows dogs. My reality is that right now is the first time in my 65 years on this planet that I have more show titled dawgs than field titled dawgs, and that probably isn't all tha...
