Re: Ran a yote 46 miles today
The law is pretty well the same way here. I talked to my conservation agent here. He says my dogs can go wherever as long as they dont pose a threat to life or property.

Re: Ran a yote 46 miles today
In Iowa there is no laws against a dog tracking an animal across private property, as long as the dog was released on ground that was legal to hunt. A friend of mine had a dog shot on private property by the land owner, he followed his tracker into a farm yard just in time to walk into the machine ...

Alot of coyote hunters around shelbina. Quite a few open blocks down there it's alot different terrain than where I live. We're all hills, ditches, and timber here.Joeyman wrote:i was up near shelbina this weekend running a 600ac block. nice area up that way.

Re: Ran a yote 46 miles today
How do yotes run when pursued by a pack of dogs? Do they circle or just get gone? Depends on the time of year and the cover they have to run it. Late January through Feb when they're out roaming for mates and alot of males have left their home to search you'll get alot of out of the country runners...

Re: Ran a yote 46 miles today
How do dogs not get hit on highways and stuff and what do you do about landowners who don't want dogs on their property? I know most landowners are glad to be rid of yotes but i am sure you get the occasional tree hugger... Farm community of 2000 people. My family owns nearly 2000 acres and then an...

Ran a yote 46 miles today
Got after a yote this morning. We always start new hunt as soon as we turn dogs loose. The dog that jumped the yote and was there at the finish had 46 miles on her this is how it ended. http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh282/nater102/F0A98381-C66B-43A8-BA97-F4A2CEEEE952-8039-0000051282FF589D.jpg h...

Re: Too much nose or not enough brains?
I currently own 9 hounds and hunt them in different packs of 6 at a time. I only have one hound that I consider to have a real exceptional nose. He will open a little early on a track but will move right up to the rabbit and the race is one. Does it time and time again. He dont run old lines off a ...

Re: Too much nose or not enough brains?
Anybody that thanks you have to have babbling all over the woods to kill a rabbit. Come to NC I will show you that you DO NOT.  Babbling and a big nose is not the same. :bash: :bash: Most people do not know the difference. Just saying :eyes: :eyes: Personally a big nose dog with brains I...

Re: Too much nose or not enough brains?
Alabama John pretty much hit on it IMO. There are dogs who look for game, and there are dogs who look for a track. When you've got a dog who doesnt have a big nose that looks for a track instead of game you've got a problem. Many of the dogs who "dont open until their games up" are the dogs describe...

Re: hope i did not hurt him!!!
I buy a couple cases of bottle rockets a year. I'll shoot a pack off a week from the front porch almost year round. Never had a problem with a dog and a gun since.
