Re: Rabbit Running Boots
I prefer Cabellas Kangaroo Skin Boots with gore-tex membrane. Light comfortable and waterproof. I also use inserts from the orthopoedic doctor at the Veterans Hospital. The boots are made roomy (square toe) enough to fit the insoles and a heavy pair of socks when its cold.

Re: What makes a PROVEN cross?
A cross that consistently produces exceptional hunt traits and exceptional physical structure is a proven cross to me. Hunt or show titles are secondary to what the dogs actually are physically and mentally.

Re: Kennel Name.
My mother chose the name Touchstone around 1969. She chose it based on the definition of the word. We had Dalmatians and Beagles at the time. Definition of TOUCHSTONE 1 : a black siliceous stone related to flint and formerly used to test the purity of gold and silver by the streak left on the stone ...

Re: NEW DIVISION FOR OVER 15 INCH BEAGLES
If the dogs that run in the class for disqualified dogs are spayed or neutered then I think it could be a good idea. Since they are oversize and are not ideal for breeding why not get em fixed and go ahead and run them. Many of us have trained a young dog and then had it go oversize. Someone ends up...

Re: Red Flag or just getting better?? UKC Nationals
Any dog worth a grain of salt will be proficient at jumping, running solo, and packing before it turns 2 yrs old. IMO! EG a 1 yr old. Many great dogs that are trialed in an area with many hunts may finish their HBCH before they turn 2. HBCH is a stepping stone degree that alows the hound the opportu...

Re: no more oversized dogs
If a registry is going to require dogs to be measured they should also be certain to qualify those doing the measuring and the equipment used. Knowing the top of the withers, allowing the dog to stand correctly and relaxed, flat level surface, etc. Once a dog measures in at a hunt it should not be s...

Re: no more oversized dogs
I don't see much advantage to a bigger dog unless you are in deep snow or something like that. I do believe there are some ethics relating to the beagle breed standard involved in the issue. Dogs permitted to compete should conform to the requirements of the particular registry. If 15" disqualifies ...

Re: Ears/scenting
Every part of the breed standard was written to define the physical characteristics that would best aid the dog in its task. For the beagles many parts of the breed standard contribute to scenting. EARS - The ears are set moderately low, setting close to the head. The forward edge turns slightly int...

Re: Price of a dog handler
You might get the best deal from the stud dog or brood bitch owner. Some with dominant stud dogs/brood bitches would like to see them earn degrees. Just an idea. Probably also could vary according to the format. Some formats you can have several dogs in but can only handle one and just send the othe...

Re: DNA
Their DNA will not change any from the day they are born. Found out there is a bit of difficulty when doing DNA on a pup not yet registered. Best to send DNA for the sire and dam in with the pups. Even doing it this way can take more than a month. If you start the process while the pups are very you...
