Re: weircreek dogs

The one trait that most of the ones I have seen have is above average hunt. Some of them hunt VERY hard and I like that!

Re: Snake Bite

My youngest female got bit Wednesday morning. One fang under the chin by a copperhead I think. She never got down too bad. She had a hard, fist sized knot that evening. She ate well but threw it all up after about 30 minutes. So, I gave her another Benadryl thinking she had lost the previous one. On...

Re: winding the rabbit.

I had one that hunted like that. I have had some very "busy" dogs that could not match him at producing a rabbit. The casual observer might say he was "briar shy". He liked taking the easier paths when hunting and would circle down wind of promising spots. When you saw him DIVE into a thick spot, yo...

Re: Whats the worst club you ever went to ?

I agree too Ron. What makes for a bad day at any club? Few rabbits, rotten weather, poor/no grub - the folks are PRACTICALLY ALWAYS GREAT to me!

Re: heliprop

I bought a male directly off Prop. I gave him to a friend here in Georgia and he still has him. I guess he is close to 10 years old by now.

Re: foggy eyes

I had one with a similar injury. It happened durring hunting season and I am not sure if it was a thorn or a stray pellet. The eye healed fine and the blue cast mostly went away but she still has scar tissue in the very center. At first, she seemed to have very little vision in that eye but I think ...

Re: Selecting a pup

BOLDNESS - especially with the females - beagles tend to be on the shy side anyhow. One that is extra shy of unfamiliar people, strange settings, or load sounds is virtually worthless for hunting. Slip up near the pups and clap your hands loudly. Don't consider keeping the ones that head for the hil...

Re: What bedding to use for welping box ?

I like shredded paper. It is very absorbant and it mom swallows a bit cleaning the pups, it will not hurt her. You do have to change it pretty often.

Re: Mange?

Aaron - check out the other post about losing hair. When you pull the hair on the infected area does it pull free leaving a ulcerated looking sore? If so, give 3 cc's of Penicilin-G in the muscle of the back leg (like the old time rabies shots). Within a week the sores should be drying up. It will t...

Re: Fleas on 1 week old pups

Read your post too fast! YOU are right on the money Kenny. A heavy flea infestation could be the problem. Even if it is something else, he has nothing to lose by getting the fleas off them!

Re: Fleas on 1 week old pups

The person giving you the advice was right on the money! I like Joy others say Dawn. Either should work WITHOUT harmful pesticides! Be sure to use warm water, rinse thoroughly, then dry to prevent chilling the pups. Definitely get rid of the bedding! Be sure you get the fleas off Mom or you will be ...

Re: Scabby bumps on head

I am 99% sure it is not mange. Are there fire ants where you live? That would be my first guess. Just before the problem started, did you run the dog after a rain or early in the morning when the dew was heavy? Dew poisoning would be my second guess. If so, there should be similar scabs on the chest...
