Re: Running Pen Size for Cottontail

Let me start by saying this is just my experiences with running in an enclosure. I think there is good and bad when running in one. The enclosure I run in is an old brace club so there is alot of mowed paths. It can teach a dog to be lazy and walk the paths and if that happens too often the dog does...

Re: Green Bay Sako....at STUD in WV.

I liked Sako when I seen him run before. However now that I have got to see him up close I like him even more. He is quick but clean and smooth on the track. He and his two half sisters and half brother we own are a pure pleasure to run. Sako can stick around in PA for as long as you allow Jim.

Re: Green Bay Sako & Green Bay Jimmy....at STUD in WV.

Sako and Jimmy are just as Jim tells it. Sako reminds me more of his sire than any other young dog we have out of him. He is smooth with good foot but excellent control. He lead the way most of the time and is a really talented young dog. Jimmy is excellent at the point of loss. He isn't flashy just...

Re: Green Bay Sako & Green Bay Jimmy....at STUD in WV.

We hunted Jimmy yesterday and put over 11 miles on him. He is exactly as Jim described. He immediately goes back to the point of loss and works the check inside out. He handles well and will run the front when he can but not swing or cut to get there. He has an excellent nose like his mom and can sm...

Re: Checkwork

How can you say the way akc intended? You talk to the akc reps about it? I had an interesting conversation with Mr. Robert Oliver who is an akc rep at a Midwest trial. He runs a UBGF style dog. If the akc felt a certain style was the correct interpretation wouldn't they want the people they pay to r...

Re: Checkwork

The problem is everybody interpets the rule book differently. If you asked the UBGF guys, the Appalachian Gundog Brace guys, the Midwest guys, the PBGF guys, or any other style out there they will all say they run as close to a rule book dog as they can find. There is so many different running style...

Re: Garmin alpha tt 15 collar

Just a thought but are you tracking collars or other handhelds that aren't on the hunt with you? I had one of my collars do exact same thing but realized I was still tracking a friends collar and handheld that lives in another state. I stopped tracking his handheld and collar and haven't had any iss...

Re: Patch hounds

Just like Jim said Chris Hornick has the most pure patch hounds out there. A lot claim too but he is the man chosen by Mike who was chosen by Willet to carry on the kennel. He has all the info you need based on 100 years of breeding that line of dogs.

Re: flea and tick collars .

I use the purple cattle tags myself. I use purple because they were tested on dogs according to some research I did when I started using them 7 years ago. No issues with females not sticking. My female had 9 pups in October last year and she wears one all the time. As John said I did take it off bef...

I got my roll around 5 or 6 years ago from Alexanders General Store. Don't know if they still sell it but they are in one of the Carolina's.
