Re: Run to catch

I will say Shady Grove that I have experienced many of those times like you describe when I coon hunted. Not so awful much with my beagles. I had one big Northern Blue bred Bluettick that was one of those type that when you cut him loose you lifted up his tail and kissed his back side good-bye as he...

Re: Grain fed dogs

I have been involved in this BIG debate about grains in dog food several times and it seems that there may be something to what I have been saying for quite some time. I also believe that very high protein percentages are a culprit to animal health as well. If left to nature as the article states an...

Re: Run to catch

Hey DR, I too want to wish you good luck and a fast recovery from your hernia surgery. Dang us ole guys have minds that say YES but bodies that say NO. I had a big tree limb fall onto me las summer when cutting fire wood that hit me on my left shoulder. I couldn't lift my arm so had to have an MRI a...

Re: Run to catch

That's a great looking litter of blue tics. Always loved them even when coon hunting just never owned but one blue tic coon hound that was Dave Dean's Northern Blue Hammer line bred. Never did own a blue tic beagle but love those that look like the old time coon hound blues with the black heads.

Re: Indiana Coal Mines-SAD

I'll also add that the mines have taken back a lot of the property even from the Indiana State DNR. Most of the old Minnihaha property is now posted to the hilt. I live right out near it and the property is either under private ownership OR under a lease. That is the other thing here, hunting lease ...

Re: Brinsky's Run-em Over Tank

I've still got probably one of my first coon hunting lights which was a Bill Boatman Dynalite. I can't remember but I think maybe it was bought around 1970 ± a year or two. I believe Bill Boatman actually owned the Dynalite company and made these 6 cell plastic lights with a rim that glowed in the d...

D.R. that mention of Bill Boatman takes me way back to my heavy coon hunting days.

Re: Run to catch

I have to agree with you two ole fellas as you both are a couple years older than I am. I have hunted my entire life and age hasn't stopped me yet but what has really slowed me down is the changes to the sport. Used to be that a man could hunt about any property that held game and a lot of ole mine ...

Re: Bloodline???

I just love to read anything that is written, by this old Fart, we call Shady Grove !! I know anyone that reads this and jumps, to the conclusion what does this Ga.Red Neck, mean by calling Mr.S.G. an Old fart? Well, you see I have lots more Seniority, than the fellow that has forgotten more about,...

Re: Run to catch

It seems that on a bright sunny day the rabbits go to a hole quicker. If its foggy or cloudy they seem to stay up longer. Newt I 100pct agree on the sun vs cloudy/foggy days, also seems on real windy days they don’t wanna run like they do on a calm day around here. Deer movement seems to follow the...

Re: Rabbit recipes

Flour, and Joe's stuff, (Joe's stuff is only available from the New Orleans School of cooking) brown in oil until crispy. Add water and simmer for 2-3 hours turning occasionally so as not to burn pieces on the bottom of the pan. The meat will be falling off the bone and there will be a little gravy ...

Re: Gone With the Wind

Good post harechaser and I have described Mark Carder's dogs many times after watching his videos, as rabbit hounds. Never even mentioned if they were my style or not because any dog that pursues it's quarry as they do is my style because they are a rabbit dogs that one can put meat on the table wit...

Re: Gone With the Wind

There is actually NO science involved in all this hound dog running style because it is ALL OPINION. What I consider fast, slow, air, ground scent etc is a matter of my opinion as I have never in ALL my years of following hounds smelled a single thing this ole dogs do. I've seen coon hounds stick th...
