I would be willing to give 50 bucks to anyone that can show me a show dog with a nose like my stud dog. Very few hunting dogs even have one like it. If "very few hunting dogs even have one like it," then he must have an exceptional nose. Why does a "show dog" necessarily have to be held to an excep...

JUST CONSIDER THIS , IF THE BREED STANDARD IS SUPOST TO BE CONDUSIVE TO WHAT IT TAKES FOR A DOG TO RUN ALL DAY AND HOLD UP,RUN AT OLD AGES ,ETC.......... THEN WHY IS IT THAT SOME OF THE MOST HIGH ENDUANCE HOUNDS IN THE WORLD ,THE AKC LP ON HARE DOGS COULD NEVER PLACE IN A "PRETTY SHOW " AS I CALL T...

I'm amazed at the acumen of some of the people here. Just by looking at a picture of a "pretty" beagle, or just by knowing that it's a show dog, they can tell that it can't hunt! I need to get some of you to pick out stocks for me to invest in if you're that good. There aren't many crossovers from t...

Lots of people have urns.

I spread the ashes in favorite running grounds instead.

The lack of a collar doesn't necessarily mean anything. Collars can break or slip off. Also, if someone had stolen the dog, the first thing they'd have done is gotten rid of the collar. He may have gotten away from a thief. A "found" ad in the area paper with the biggest readership for 5-10 days is ...

It's not a freak thing - it's natural. In wolf packs, only the highest-ranking female is bred. If she dies and there are cubs around, wolves going through a false pregnancy would be there to provide milk (and may act as nurse-maids in the first place even if the highest-ranking female is still aroun...

Under what grounds is a dog-shooting justified in the eyes of the law on public ground? Could charges be filed? We had someone shoot a dog out on the road in our area (for no reason at all), and he was charged with public endangerment and a few other crimes for it.

Frontline kills them on dogs wonderfully. When I pull a live-one off, I toss them in the toilet. The buggers float, so I drop some liquid soap on them, and it breaks the surface tension and sinks them. I've still seen them crawling after 30 minutes or so of being submerged. They can take enough air ...

Regardless of why Iams is no longer supporting PetFest with HSUS, it's hard not to imagine a lot of it was due to customer complaints and people showing them the real side of HSUS. I can't remember what nastiness I wrote to them! I swear by Eukanuba, so I am glad Iams ended the association with HSUS.

I don't think it's fair to take dogs who've worked in good scenting conditions all their lives and expect them to adjust immediately to poor scenting conditions. It's not a breeding issue, it's a habit issue. It takes a different approach, the "unlearning" of some old habits, and the learning of som...

Asking a few questions usually scares them off. Ask to meet them, see their kennel/home, ask for a background reference to contact, etc, and you usually won't hear from them again.

I'm with Southern Beagles. There are going to be disagreements in field judging, the show ring, and among beaglers themselves about what is "better," but there's no dispute that weeding out health problems makes the breed better. We're lucky to have a relatively healthy breed to begin with. There ar...

Alabama John - Human warts are also caused by a virus. Removing warts is acceptable and sometimes necessary practice (as in the case I described with mine). As another poster mentioned, the removed warts can also be used to create an autogenous vaccine. If I ever had a wart problem with a dog again,...

They should go away eventually. The immune system doesn't always attack them right away. If a wart appears somewhere away from the mouth (chin, etc), you can put some over-the-counter topical stuff to treat that one, and it will stimulate the immune system to attack the rest. If the warts are in the...
