My thoughts too Dana. Could not have said it better. I miss those nights down at the Outback running to the wee hours. I hope you are doing well.

Same old problem, same old answers. Going down one way street with no way out. Unless we get the young folks in, and then treat them right, as I said before we will die in a decade from now. Lots of reasons why, but no one wants to help. Everyone wants to run their dogs, and dont care about anyone e...

Pine You make a good case for not scratching the hound. I am sure other judges would not do it either. In speaking, only about the hound. If allowed to keep doing that, then leaves the door wide open for heartbreak. I dont think you hate deer runners more than I do LOL, because I depise them. I have...

Bill, no rabbit was being ran. Deer race all the way. Yes you are right as well as Bev. the judge should have had the other dogs caught, picked up the two running off, then recast the remaining hounds to finish the cast. That would have been the reponsible thing to do. LOL Tommy

Ricky In the situation you have laid before us. It would be hard not to scratch hound B. It would be an easy dog to break for me though. I have a feel to agree with Lynn on this one. Went back too many times. Bev. you are right as to pick it out like you did. It is my belief too many judges get in a...

As Dana said, the night running is better. This is true more so in the summer time. Start at dark, or shortly after, and run past dawn. No better conditioning will do. I LOVE IT!! Dana I miss those nights at Mikes. Wish I could get back down there,& run with Jughead some more. Tommy

Ricky, You know like I do, sometimes things dont add up maybe like we think they should. A check is clearly defined!! Hound MUST claim, then move the line by forward progress PERIOD. It gives no amount of times the hound has to bark, nor does it tell us how far it has to go for foward progress. Ther...

What difference does it make if he came from the pound or not. I hunted with a man years ago who owned a dog named Oscar the Project dog. Now Oscar was a rabbits terror. He could really lick on a rabbit. I asked him why he named him Oscar the Project dog. He told me he was driving through the projec...

A smart judge would have the dogs handled, then put down on the hot track. Why waste a hot rabbit, you may not get another one. It was jumped by the handlers. This is the only fair option you have. Both to the hounds, and owners. The common sense factor plays volumes in this event. Tommy

Ricky, most females will fall into heat every six months. I had one that had heat every four months just like clock work. Some only have one a year at the same time every year. Just get to know the females pattern, and write it down on the calender. Then you can keep up with it. Yes, breeding the bi...
