Re: Commands??
Here and Down are the two I teach first. If this is all they learn then I can work with that. I teach these commands at a very early age (8 to 12 weeks) but it is never to late to teach a young hound. These commands will help you to maintain control of you hounds in the field. Check out my site (paw...

Re: huntin boots
I have been using Lacross (Grange) for years. They are very comfortable. It never gets that cold here in South Mississippi so the un-inulated work best. I hunt a lot and have to buy a new pair every-other year. They only last about 500 miles in these briers.

Re: Whelping box temp.
I keep my welpping box 90 degreese for the first 5 days. Pups do not generate any body temp for 3 or 4 days. My whelping box is well insulated and I have a light mounted inside the box. I have found that the light will cause the box to get too hot, so I use a ciramic heater with a termastate to keep...

Re: Pig Rails
My Whelping box is insulated, top, bottom and sides. The top opens for easy access and it has a pig rail made of 1 inch PVC. I used 1 inch tees to connect sections. The tee was used to keep the rail off the wall. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a63/CAINCUTTER/BirthingFacility006.jpg Here is my Pump...

Re: Safeguard Suspension
Hey Caincutter your site was where I got the info from (thank you!) but it doesn't state the 10% suspension, just "liquid Safeguard". Since it said .6 for a 25# goat I just thought I would make sure! Thanks again! The Safeguard that I use is the 10% and yes the amout given a hound is a lot more per...

Re: Kidney Disease
I lost my best hound ever to kidney disease (Last November). I still can not beleive that she is gone. My vet seemed to think I may have been giving to much ivermect. I was using the standard 1/10 cc per 10 pounds. Based on his recomendation I have cut back to 1/10 cc per 15 pounds. The vet did not ...

Re: ? for Safeguard liquid goat wormer users
Safe-guard for Pups: Safe-guard is given to pups (like grow hounds) based on weight. I use a small food scale with a plastic basket to weigh the pups. For their first few days (Day 5 thru Day 12) each day I let the pups lick a few drops of safeguard off my finger. On day 14, when they are 2 weeks ol...

Re: Drying up a female
Here is my plan for drying up mom.. It works for me.. Drying Up Mama: As the pups get older they will be eating more and more from the pan and will not need to nurse as much. The last few days the pups are with the mama, they may be down to nursing just once or twice a day. As the pressure comes off...

Re: satsuma x patch
I have some Satsuma / Posin Patch hounds in my pack. They are a little watered down on the Satsuma side (about 3/4 Satsuma bred to full Posin Patch) These are some hard hunting, front of the pack young hounds. They have lots of step but can hold the line. The three young hounds that I kept out of th...

Re: Traing with E collar
Try putting the e-collar on her every time you take her from her kennel. She should start to act normal if she has it on all the time she is out. Check out my site for more about how I use these great tools to train my hounds and to keep a handle on them. http://www.geocities.com/pawpawskennels/col....

Re: My first litter
David, losts of luck with your litter. They must be due any time now. Here is some info I have taken from my site "pawpawskennels": Take Care of Mama: Weeks before the pups are whelped mama will require a change in diet. A quality puppy food will provide the nutrition needed for the growth and devel...
