Dj, I had the same problem. What I did was install some small fans that blow across the doorway of the dog houses. Keeps the mosquitos and flys out of the dog house.

Whether its his intention or not, I think his videos have bridged a gap between houndsman from different locations around the united states. I'd like to give walker and suzie a pat o...

Re: competiveness in a dog?
A small amount of competetive spirit may be ok, but there is a fine line.Nothing wrong with a little bumping and grinding if both hounds happen to bump heads while going at their own pace running rabbit. When they get over competetive and start banging just for the sake of being upfront is where the...

Re: Red River Bruce Bloodline???
Only seen bruce run when he was very old. He had hunt. I did however get to see lone hunters buster run in his prime, he was out of bruce. Only seen him run once, but I can't stress enough how impressive he was on that particular day. He was a rabbit hunting and running machine. He set the standard ...

Re: Not enough nose???
The most common thing I see in hounds/bloodlines that are proven to be useful in bad conditions is there method of running a rabbit. As a general rule, most I have seen were levelheaded and worked in a sound manner. I have seen exceptions, but very few.

Re: Not enough nose???
newt, i agree. i didnt explain my self very well. if i understand correctly, norwester1 said that alot of the southern houndsman seek northern bloodlines for their nose. its true, ive done it myself. my point is this; if a bloodline cant get it done in the north's tough conditions, its been my exper...

Re: Not enough nose???
Having owned a few and seeing many more at trials, my experience has been that not many hounds from the northern bloodlines can get it done in bad conditions down here in the south either. I can say the same thing about the southern bloodlines. Not many that get it done in the worst of conditions. A...

Re: Not enough nose???
Bunnyblaster and norwester, good post. The jordon example is great. He was prob born with some god given gifts, but he practiced everyday, worked out, he was focused, determined etc. He also had many coaches along the way. Take away any part of this equation and he might not have been as succesful.

Re: why cant grown men just be honest
Recently I have been seeking information on a particular stud that is owned by a well known breeder/houndsman. Everyone speaks highly of him. When I asked about the hounds strengths, he didn't hesitate to tell me everything about the hound. When I asked him if the hound had faults or something that ...

Re: Not enough nose???
i tend to agree with laneline. im not gonna say that there are not hounds out there that have a better nose than others, but i firmly believe that most dogs are equal in the nose department. its how they process and react to the scent line that seperates them. i think it has more to do with concentr...
