Re: Name some top hounds?? Female or Males from the past/present
Heli Prop was better than Jack, but Jack produced better than himself alot. Dan finished in 13" and 15" up here in Canada and sure had a nose and line control and of course stamina to run with the 15's. Did Shooter ever run in the 15's ? I marshalled one 15" class Dan placed first in, Northern Sly g...

Re: Question on lining out the rabbit track??
I would try to get him back to the check area and not let him range out and re-jump it elsewhere if that's what he does. If a young one like this is ran in the same area all the time they can get smart to the area too and take off for a re-jump, if so try another running spot. One of mine at that ag...

Re: Question on a dogs skills improving
I find you will see alot of improvement in checking ability etc between 12 and 24 months old, by the end of the second hunting season you usually know what you have.

Re: Question
I like to do it as a training/handling thing. If I see a hare cross like you said I may sit and wait/watch the hound(s) figure it out OR I may call out "here it is, here it is" to get them on it. I always do it when they are young and need the help. By the time they are a year old or so they know ex...

Re: QUESTION - YOUNG HOUNDS DEVELOPING THEIR SKILLS
I believe soloing helps alot as Brad said, but still pack them also. I seen a major jump in my hounds checking abilities at both 18 months and 22 months old, alot at 22 months. I was wondering if he'd ever get to the level I hoped for and he did. After 2 hunting sesons they should be there for sure....

Re: Dogs that can lock on a cottontail
I'm sure there are people that want a dog that can solo a rabbit like you just said Larry, lot's of them. not everyone want's the same thing in a hound and no single type of hound makes up all FC's. there are as many different types of FC's as there are dog breeds. If there's a certain type of hound...

Re: Field Trial Dogs "Traits", Poll...
Sure there are some like that, but you can't say all all trial hounds are, like mybeagles said. Even a hound that has trialed alot once run alone or even with a small pack doesn't stand around looking for a hound to get one going. are you saying no gundogs stop and listen ? because they do too. As f...

Re: How much would you pay for a top male ?
Cost is only relavant to what ya have in your bank account anyway, or your ability to make coin back from your purchase,so there is no right answer to this quetion anyway.

Re: FTCH Filmores Northern Sly
Yeah, he was an escape artist and passed that trait along too. Sly had superior nose power,he and Ranger Dan finished off a hard scenting trial and Sly got the 2nd place ribbon, but it was as close as it gets. He could lead when running was good, turned on a dime with the hare, out hunted all or mos...

Re: Homemade dog food
You can get the Omega 3 in cod liver oil, shark oil etc. so you don't have to buy Salmon etc. I made dog food, used vitamin's C,D,E and A I belive. wild rice, spinach, carrots, oatmeal, pears and a few other things. I got beef and turkey after dinners at the Legion etc. for free too. It was like X-m...

Re: How much would you pay for a top male ?
I sold one for $400 Can.,Fillmore's Brandy, she was really well bred, she got a few ribbons in the first few trials as did her sister. I had no time to keep trialing her and she was 12", I ran 15"'s. She didn't have the amount of tounge I like for hunting either. She did have an above average nose a...

Re: Where does shyness come from?
Lumberjack has thrown alot of shy hounds, but was he shy himself ? I never heard he was, but have seen enough shy pups that have him in their ped. up close. We have 2 pups now with Lumberjack in them that are shy. The one that is inside getting more socialization has become much better than the one ...
