My 8 month old was similar. It took 3 times out for 2-3 hours before he would go with the one other hound. He preferred to run his own. If he was near me when the other hound went by I would run after the other dog and the pup would join in at times and then finally trust the other dog enough to run...

We start using road kill scent around 8 weeks old and always have our pups started by 4-5 months old, I find it much easier to start them when their young, and they turn out to be exellent hunting/trailing dogs. Wouldn't have it any other way.

That's not too much, however running in the same spot day after day can lead to some dogs getting to know the area so well that they lose some check control.My 11 month old was starting to search wider than usual for checks after running in the same spot 1 or 2 times a week for a few months. I trained, trailed and owned Sly until he passed away the spring before last. Also ran all his littermates 1st cross and some of the 2nd cross. I bred him here in the maritimes with alot of great females, most male studs would be @ 10-12 years old now. Try asking on http://www.beagles.canada.com on ...
