Re: Ivomec question...

The reason for the warning not to use on dogs is if the dog has a *mature* heartworm infestation and you kill all the worms with the Ivomec (and you would) the dead worms will clump up in the dog's heart, killing it. As long as you KNOW your dog does not have a Mature infection, Ivomec in any form w...

Re: Need advice on beagles behaving badly.

Oh yes - I know! It is always a worry. The puppy mill thing is taken off the table because I had them both neutered. I knew this would detract from their potential cash value, but felt it was important to do as I didn't intend to breed - and it's not like Beagles are rare - even from good lines. Thi...

Re: Need advice on beagles behaving badly.

I see. Yes, I have looked at the ones at Tractor Supply. That would keep them in if we put pavers down it so they don't dig under. It may come to that, but I think I'd rather sell them than kennel them if that is what I'd have to do. Keep in mind I don't hunt or even know anyone who does. I just lik...

Re: Allergies

I've had several allergic dogs over the years and sympathize with you and your poor dog. I once had a Gorden setter that was allergic to planet earth. I think the best thing you can do is avoid corn in her diet as much as possible and go ahead and get her her shots. They might cause side effects som...

Re: Need advice on beagles behaving badly.

I actually have a hot box from years ago. I didn't like using it because I kept finding animals killed by it - birds and possums and so on. I have it put up in the barn loft - but maybe your right. Maybe it would work better - and maybe also my husband could get it up quicker. I need to do something...

Re: Need advice on beagles behaving badly.

You're right that this might wpork on the egg eating problem, just like you say. But I still can't keep them in. Just had a bit of high drama as a result. It is making me crazy.

Re: Need advice on beagles behaving badly.

I have come to realize they need constant supervision when not penned. I guess I thought they'd out grow this in time; and also that nearly 2 acres was enough roaming room, but now suppose this was unrealistic. I was hoping the sport dog fence would solve the problem and became alarmed all over agai...

Re: Need advice on beagles behaving badly.

A Kennel? But what is the point of having dogs if their off in a kennel - besides - wouldn't that cost a king's ransom? A rat trap? Really - you don't think it would maybe really hurt them, maybe damage their nose ? I mean a rat trap is no small thing! But generally, I do like the idea. . . But here...

Re: Need advice on beagles behaving badly.

I have a shock collar set I used very successfully to teach them chickens and ducks are not to be played with. They now think chickens are electric. But using it to keep them out of the coop and away from the eggs was much less successful. The problem is I can't watch them every minute and occasiona...

Re: Need advice on beagles behaving badly.

Even if we crank it up? It has 5 settings - I imagine #5 is pretty unpleasent. Have you ever tried one of these fences with your beagles? Has anyone?

Re: Need advice on beagles behaving badly.

The husband doesn't want to run any more wire fencing. He feels it cuts the yard up to much - doesn't like how it would look but mostly doesn't want anything more to have to cut and trim around. My first notion was to get a tighter weave fence for the whole yard (about 1 3/4 acres) to keep them in, ...

Need advice on beagles behaving badly.

I have two beagle pups, about 6 months old. They are from T-rex and Lumberjack lines, but I doubt this matters in regard to my troubles. Two things - they are in the 13 inch class and so are small and able to walk right through our 4 inch square field fence. I thought they'd grow to big and this wou...
