Re: help selecting beagle from shelter
870- I wanted to respond to you about "not expecting" a beagle to be a good pet. I don't know about others but I have a year old that I raised in the house and she is a GREAT pet. She's well mannered, completely housebroke (very early and was was easy to break to the outdoors) and is a wonderful com...

Sergeants Gold causes toxic dog
My husband put Sergents Gold Flea/Tick Treatment on my 1 yr. old Beagle yesterday. I almost lost her. She was allergic to it and may have ingested some of it by scratching then licking her foot. At any rate I rushed her to the vet. She was toxic when I got her there (we're an hour away). After IV fl...

Re: How does a newbie get started in field trials?
Where are you located? I agree, go to a trial without your dog but it is easy to feel lost unless you know someone there or are willing to let someone know you're new. I think you'll find that everyone will help you if you let them know you're just starting out. What kind of trialing do you want to ...

Re: hair coming off snout
I don't know about hair coming off just his snout, but yes dogs can be allergic to cedar chips. Our field champion is allergic to TREATED cedar chips. Hair came off in spots all over his sides. Took almost 2 months to get him straighened up 100%. Hope you find out what's causing the problem with you...

Re: beginner wanting to get started
Love the scenario on trialing...so much of it is true!
On a serious note though, go to the AKC website and you can search for trials by geography/dates. Also spend $18 and subscribe to Hounds and Hunting. Good luck!

Re: Question for the Pros...
How old are the pups? A female's hormones run wild after birth. Also some bitches have difficulty during heat when trialed. Mine was a total mess while she was in heat!

Re: close to whelping
Congrats on the litter! Just wondering.... it seems likes more males are lost than females in a new litter. Am I just off here or do others seem to find that also? If it's true I wonder why.

Re: "Polka Dot" Hair-Help
Beaglemom, haven't added anything like that to his feed but it's a good idea. He's shiny as a new penny right now from all the conditioner but corn oil is a lot cheaper than the vet recommended skin conditioner we had to use. Especially for "maintenance" shine. Thanks!

Re: "Polka Dot" Hair-Help
Thougth I'd update everyone on this. After frequent bathing, skin conditioning and grooming, the hair is back in. There are a few white ones, but mostly came back the original colors. He's ready for the nationals Thanks again for the feedback!

Re: "Polka Dot" Hair-Help
Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your help!! There isn't any infection or proud flesh, the skin is smooth and the hair is coming in on his belly. I'm using Nucoat on him too. Besides the show concern, since he's a field champion I didn't want people to think they are hallucinating if they see a ...

"Polka Dot" Hair-Help
One of our dogs was allergic to cedar chips and hair came out spotty along his sides along the saddle. The vet said that when it came back in it would probably be white and gave me VetSolutions Oatmeal, Aloe shampoo and conditioner to help the skin and hair. I would like to avoid a "polka dot" effec...

Re: Abortion Shot .......
Used it for a beagle who was about 1 yr old last month..no side effects so far. She continued to run like before with no problems. Don't know yet if her cycle will change/or problems until she's due again, but our vet said there shouldn't be any problems.
