Great post Bob! When the scent lays well a smart hound will lift it's head to take advantage of the high scent. It will seem as you described, a Sunday drive, for the hound is running scent that is described as being like a vapor trail left from a car on a cold morning. The hound will also run close...

Greeting Jack, The wheel is squeaking. We also forwarded the concern to Senator Hume. I'm inviting him on a rabbit hunt. I figure if he can see what a poor job my hounds do on a rabbit, he will see the need to keep the ground open and the lack of threat to the game...lol ;) Merry Christmas...Patch

Walk out into the likly spots and stand there, she has to learn to search. It sounds like she may have been ran with a hound that made all the jumps for her. It is time consuming but she has to learn and gain the confidence to make her own jumps...Patch

That's right Ryan, you must be careful or the pup will be retrieving the rabbits to you and not your dad...lol, Have the camera ready to catch the look on his face when he gets the pup, those shots are worth a million.
Good hunting to you & dad ;) ...Patch

(Quote);Nowhere in any post did anyone suggest you get rid of your hounds. A couple of you are determined to polarize everyone into two camps- those that LIKE cold trailing and those that don't. As I've said on several occasions, the standard is there for us to shoot for, and the standard was establ...

No need to humor me Chris, your manner shows no lack of confidence, so I won't endeavor to hurt your pride. I've been down the road and back. Those that were bred for the nose that couldn't keep their mouth shut on the old trails(lack of brain), in the worst of conditions, babbled like fools on old ...

Kjohns,
The light feeders eat it better so it seems to sweeten the taste, also it has vitamins & calcium.
Pouring the leftover pot-roast over the feed would probably be as good but I'd get tired of pot-roast...lol...Patch

Can't wipe it out and dump it on them to figure out. This is not the world it was when we got our start. Another is waiting to step in and take over when we leave. They have to take the lead to form their own gov. but we will have to provide the stability while it's being done. The people must hear ...

The harder part of the season is yet to come, I'm sure you'll change your ration as their loins narrow and the back bone becomes more pronounced. We give 1 cup on the morning, covered with warm broth & 2 cups sprinkled with calf milk replacer in the evening also covered with the broth. The energy us...

I wish everyone could understand that a hound "can and should" work a cold scent while keeping it's mouth shut. The problem comes from interfereing with the hunt of the other hounds, who may be working closer to the start or jump. If you hunt only one hound, he can sing the tale of a week old trail ...
