Re: 2 nice young prospects; just started
2 nice dogs here; bred to be fast and clean; they have no ground time, but they have the body, aggression & the look I breed for. I just can't afford to keep so many dogs.& I'm not running dogs right now with no free time.

Re: The best bloodlines for hare!!
I meant that it's hard to find hounds that can adjust well enough to win field trials in both formats. Most dogs coming off of hare will be too wide in the check area to run a cottontail the right way at first. It will take them some time to settle in & adjust to a smaller animal with less scent tha...

Re: The best bloodlines for hare!!
Running hare & running cottontail are very different. Dogs that can adjust & do well on both are hard to find. Someone mentioned Dan Johnson. He has had good luck in both. So has John Dewyse, Bob King, Cletus Shaw & several others. Some guys down here have had good luck in the hare trials also. Don ...

Re: top ten--in worst conditions--
It's easier said than done; judging I mean. A judge wants to be able to see enough running out of each hound to be able to make good decisions. Judges should tell the handlers to hang back for a few minutes while the judges watch their hunt. If they are satisfied with their hunt, then let the handle...

Re: top ten--in worst conditions--
These kind are rare that are the best in the field no matter what scenting conditions are like. I'll settle for some that can just get the job done well whether scent is tough or ideal. Changing speeds according to scenting conditions is another reason dogs need brains. I don't want a fast dog outru...

Re: top ten--in worst conditions--
I've seen some judges watch their hunt & others don't. I wish they all would start if they aren't already. Handlers need to stop trying to jump a rabbit as soon as the cast is turned lose. Give the judges time to evaluate their hunt for a few minutes. I don't like putting a pack on the last pack's r...

Re: RIP MWBGF HOF FC Hines Quick Kaddie
Yeah, I really liked Xena. After I saw her run before her first win, I told my buddy to stay home with his until Jeff Martin got through running his Xena dog if he was wanting a blue ribbon. Kaddie didn't look her best the time I judged her, but she must have been a heck of a dog to do what she did ...

Re: The best bloodlines for hare!!
Prime Time should have the body & heart. I don't know of much of his blood in Michigan other than FC's Wango Tango & LaLa owned by Nick Birmingham. John Dewyse had Prime Time in Michigan for a while & let him run loose most of the time on his place. He said the dog never quit; he would be so tired, ...
