Re: What becomes of your old hunting dogs?
I dont see getting rid of a dog at 5 years old. Dave I know you understand that we go thru at least 10 pups before I get one really good all around dog. I mean a dog that is well rounded, good in the kennel, good nose, good hunt and so on and so on. Once I finally get a good one there is no way I am...

Carl Post has passed away. Im not sure who or if possible someone else who will be running the site as well as the Beagle pedigree site. You might want to contact Gene Wells who is usually on this site. He might be able to give you more info.....dh

Re: What becomes of your old hunting dogs?
I try to stagger my dogs. They are all close to 3 years apart so that I don't have more then one who is really up there in age and I always have a young one coming up to replace the old one. Right now I have an 11 year old, 7, 3 1/2 and a one 1 1/2. So I'm not bogged down with too many old dogs. Tru...

Re: Solo Rabbit Hunt To See If She Can Get The Job Done With
Geez, What I nice dog. Smooth. very few and short breakdowns. I'm so tired of watching blazing speed balls to the wall dogs blow past the first turn a rabbit makes and cause a break down. I get excited watching a dog solo like that or even brace. Sure if you pile a bunch of dogs out of the truck and...

Re: Italian style rabbit
The only time I soak rabbit in salt water is when I'm cooking hare. Hare tends to have a stronger and little gamer flesh. Cotton tails are milder and I don't soak. I use a pressure cooker also, works a lot faster.........dh

Re: Plastic flooring panels for above ground
I had 2 kennels biult with the dura bench and it was the pits. Poop would not fall thrue and would get stuck on the back or underneath the panel and required constant scrubbing. Finally replaced it with wire and will never go back...... Dh.

Re: Tone Training
Come on Larry, the treat is just to start a teaching a pup or young dog to come. Only for a few sessions. Obviously once the pup starts coming then only a good boy and pat on the head. Then you move to the collar, tone and correction. Out in the woods, no treats and no excuses. When I say here I mea...

Re: Tone Training
Put them on a 20-25 foot lead or rope tied to the dogs collar. Call the dog by giving him the command ( Here) as your telling the dog here pull him in to you and when he gets to you give him a treat and a good boy. Repeat this over the course of a week or two. He has to be taught the command before ...
