Skinny Dog Syndrom
I posted this question on another board and found that many people are going through the same thing with thier dogs. Usually its just one or two in the kennel. I have had a couple of suggestions like flax seed meal and peanutbutter and I will try anything but am looking for the cause of the problem ...

Re: blood line question Tadpole/lizzard creek
We used to trial in the ARHA back in the day that Tadpole was competing in the ARHA PP. George judged him on several occasions. Tadpole was a good sized dog from what we can remember maybe 14 1/2 to 14 3/4. Tadpole was about as good as they came for rabbit hunting. It would take a strong pack of dog...

Re: Help with breeding
How do you guys pick a pup out that you want to keep? I can't just pick a pup and KNOW. I have to do it the hard way. I just keep them all and sort over time. Conformation first. What makes the cut out of the conformation I start then sort on ability of which one(s) will suite my pack best. Takes a...

Re: Help with breeding
Yes, Akc will register the pups. Father X Daughter crosses are used to lock in traits. I consider breeding this close Inbreeding. (Some call the Father X Daughter cross line breeding). Both are very useful tools in evaluating your breeding program. You could get some outstanding pups from this cross...

Re: Why Vets are important.
In my situation, I went to my regular vet and had him "work me in". No extra charge for that. The tests that were performed I asked for in advance. I didn't wait around until my dog so bad he couldn't walk or lost a lot of weight or until it became an emergancy. Now I have delt with the Emergancy cl...

Re: Why Vets are important.
Now, back to the topic at hand. Do you seek Vet care for a hound that is not eating, running a low grade fever, and has the "I don't feel good" look? OR do you experiment with online advise or home remides? I chose a vet and I am glad I did. We can debate all day long about the immune systems...

Re: Why Vets are important.
There are people who would spend good money to a vet on a worthless physical wreak of a hound, but would lie to a man that a pup died to get his money back because he bought a line of hound that he knew nothing about and didn't turn out to be what he expected. If you aline yourself with this kind, ...

Re: Why Vets are important.
Sr Patch, I agree with you to a point BUT treating a dog for injury, infection, or parasite prevention is not a problem to me and has nothing to do with natural selection. I am not raising wild animals that have to fend for themselves, hunt their own food for survival and find their own den to survi...

Re: Why Vets are important.
Total vet cost for first visit $130.00 Includes stool check, bloodwork heartworm test, rectal exam, office visit, and medication. I asked before the vet ever got in there for all of these tests except the rectal exam ($7.00) although I KNEW the dog would be negetive. Just HAD to be sure. Recheck $26...

Why Vets are important.
I know that many of you try to solve issues with your dogs by treating them yourselves but I want to share my last weeks experience with you on why vets are improtant. I took my male to the vet Friday. His symptoms were slight elevated temp, not eating, just had a look in his eyes that said he felt ...

Re: Blue Tick Follicular Displacement
Is this issue one more thing one should carefully check in a blue tick line? The answer is no. This is not an issue in bluetick lines. The only form that I am aware of in beagles is the Color Dilution Alopecia. http://www.furrycritter.com/health/dogs/Follicular_dysplasia.htm The "Blue" color like p...

Re: Blue Tick Follicular Displacement
Eightball is NOT a "true blue", he is a bluetick. PEPPER is the "true Blue". Are you sure you ment one colored like Eightball? My opinion????? Spay, nuture, remove from the breeding program. It is unethical to knowingly breed a dog with a known serious genetic fault. Doesn't matter HOW good the dog ...
