Re: Need a class for oversize dogs?

Shady Grove, At large pack trials the club loses $20 entry fee for every dog they measure out. The NMHA has been exposed for their complete disregard for proper measuring. Now an AKC representative shows up every couple trials and measures 1/2 the dogs out. Measuring isn’t that much of a crap shoot ...

Re: Need a class for oversize dogs?

John, Large Pack may be the worst offenders but when AKC Rep showed up at the Mid-West run off there were numerous violators. Not including the guys that scratched or didn't enter their dogs because they knew in advance AKC would be there. Judges certainly carry some of the blame but I point the fin...

Re: Need a class for oversize dogs?

I would like to see more personal integrity when it comes to beagling. When you know the judges won't do their job (lack of integrity), and you enter your over size dog you demonstrate your lack of integrity. As stated indirectly earlier, several will change the puppies date of birth to make them lo...

Not a chaplain. Have had many opportunities to share my faith during some challenging situations. Proud to have served, I will enjoy these last couple years as a trainer looking back on a lifetime of adventures.

Re: Run to catch

I don't care for many I see in the trials neither, but I still like to go and let my hounds compete when they are mature, in shape and I have time. Absolutely, I enjoy judging as well. Not always impressed but when I see that shining star in the crowd every now and then it’s all worth it. I’m in re...

Re: Run to catch

No reason for anyone to get worked up with you. Sounds like you have exactly what I’m looking for. If they don’t like it that’s tough. I don’t like most of what I see judging so I just move on.

Re: Run to catch

I demand that desire in my dogs its just been a battle to find hounds with the drive that will settle down enough to walk a track when its 10 below and icy. That has left me with dogs "too rough for UBGF" and "a little too easy" for Midwest and Large Pack. I'm ok with that because I'm happy with wha...

Re: Run to catch

Shady Grove, I find it interesting that everyone prefers a particular speed. I can honestly say I don't. I want dogs to run the speed conditions allow. If everyone was breeding for hounds that adjusted they wouldn't be so illusive. I'm generally supportive of the trials but when it comes to speed, t...

Re: Run to catch

When this topic comes up the question I ask is......How much disregard is their for running the line. If a pack of hounds "run to catch" and frequently break down that equals.....JUNK If a pack of hounds can "run to catch" and closely follow the line........QUALITY Then we take it to the next level....

Re: Little pack x UBGF

Both my dogs come from a similar type cross. The link below offers the pedigree; the bitch goes back to large pack dogs, the top side is all SPO breeding. I got what I was looking for but be advised you won't likely fit in very well at the field trials. When I go to UBGF trials they accuse me of run...

Camp Shelby MS

Will be at Camp Shelby for a week of military training. Will be driving and entertaining the idea of bringing my two beagles if I can find a place or someone to run with a time or two. Will be there from 7-14 Dec. Will have my truck and can drive a reasonable distance. I run a medium-medium plus UBG...

Re: pressure on a rabbit

In beagle clubs where they run slow dogs they prefer the rabbits to be calm and hop away slowly when pursued by hounds. Rabbits that get pressured by faster hounds tend to sprint away and go longer distances. This is problematic for slow hounds as the tracks tend to get cold leading to lost rabbit. ...

Re: Nose

Hippy, the short answer is NO. Any dog that has the ability/desire to run a track on frost/ice/dirt road will have extra mouth by the trial or average hunters standard. Now the long answer. Not everyone has the same standard on mouth. Those that hunt in extreme weather most of the season will tolera...
