Correct use of mouth on track is also brains or lack there of in my opinion.

Re: Formats, Foot,and Style
Bottom line, each and every day is different. Sometimes it's the fastest dog that wins, sometimes the slowest, and sometimes somewhere in between. An honest, knowledgeable Judge knows the rule book and applies OBJECTIVITY when evaluating a pack. They put their opinions, likes, dislikes or bias in t...

For a guy that doesn't field trial an has never been to an AKC trial before you sure do like to TALK about them.

Re: Formats, Foot,and Style
When a judge sees a dog drive a track an carry the line they write it down as positive score, when they see a dog jump a rabbit they write it down, when they see a dog get a check they write it down, when they see a dog make a turn they write it down. When a judge sees a dog swing, skirt, backtrack, give ...

Re: Formats, Foot,and Style
It's not so much about opinion as much as it is dogs that perform well in the conditions of that day. Like I've stated many times before - If judging was based on opinion, then instead of running along with the dogs writing down what you see an keeping score, the judges could just stand b...

Re: Formats, Foot,and Style
From what I saw, I would say Switch was a 9-10 on speed, a hard hittin front end type dog,he was flashy. I would say Bullseye was a 7 on speed, more conservative style, line running, checkin an turnin, very consistent,he won hound of the year. Both dogs were nice, and deserving of their FC title. Some d...

Re: Formats, Foot,and Style
Good post,I agree with most of what you said. Do you think that all the dogs that are winning in the Midwest are the same speed & style? Maybe I'm misunderstanding you,but it seems like your describing winning dogs as front runners, which would mean their 9-10 on speed. I've seen plenty of trials whe...

Re: Formats, Foot,and Style
That male Danny Vansickle had out of Buddys Iron Eagle could score too > I think the male your talkin about is Howard's Bandit. All this talk of speed and foot is so unimportant IMO. Ask anyone that's seen Howard's Bandit, Spencer's Turbo Babe, Arkmo's Boomer, and a host of others win a trial. They...

Re: Formats, Foot,and Style
This is absolutely true, but they don't have to be a front end dog to win a field trial, some dogs can slot up an still fill the score card up with enough score to get the blue ribbon.WELLS WOODS wrote:Front end under control is good, front end out of control will get you to the box quick like.

Re: Formats, Foot,and Style
The MidWest definitely runs a footy dog,but you dont gotta have a speed demon to win. Arkmo's Boomer got 9 wins in the Big Male Class,he wasn't the fastest dog,but he ran with good control, could carry a line, didn't get rattled under pack pressure, was tough in the checks,an could turn out of the pack...

Re: Accomplishment over Sytle
As far as accomplishment over style goes, judges should write down what they see (good & bad) plus for the positive score an minus the negative,it's simple math,if a hound has 7 positive scores an 3 negatives then 7-3=4 but you might have another hound with 4 positives & 0 negatives, then you have a t...
