Re: chewing dogs
1. Provide the dogs with raw meaty bones. 2. Create an exercise pen to get them out of the kennel daily for exercise. 3. Metal angle iron on the exposed corners.

Re: Garmin Bundle
Steve, I have had the mini collars for a couple years now and I don't notice much difference In range. I am sure there is a little bit of difference but the mini collars fit 13 inch dogs much better. The only time I've ever lost connection with the mini was on a coon dog that took off game and was s...

Re: Mid-West Beagle Gundog Federation FC's
There were more FC's that finished in the mid-west out of Dan. No special pleader for the dog but once some of the guys that run dogs out of him see this post they will add several names to the list. What strikes me is the volume of dogs that finish yet so few make any notable contribution to future...

Re: Crooked legs. Did I breed it into my dogs?
John don't you think selection has more to do with it than the fact you outcrossed?

Re: Field Trial Ponderings
Larson's Jackson was as wild as they come. Watched him as a young dog and he was scarry rough. He ended up finishing down south in Large pack. Never understood Adams interest in that dog. They claim he settled a little in old age but sounds like he found a new game he could run faster. I think he ma...

Re: Mid-West Beagle Gundog Federation FC's
Hard to think Ranger Dan only produced 5 FC's. Most if not all of shooters litter Finished, Top gun tyke, mike Blackburn, Tony Eyers, had some, There has to be more. Dan was BB Top producer several times.

Re: Field Trial Ponderings
Shady grove, Excellent points....is there any cross you believe to be too close? Family breeding can be anything from littermates to 4th cousin. I've known some good size kennels that started with good stock and had success initially but inbred themselves down to nothing. I believe selection and Ken...

Re: FACEBOOK
There seem to be about 25 beagle groups on Facebook. It has people spread thin. People that agree with each other and breed the same bloodlines congregate in Facebook to confirm amongst themselves what they already believe. I prefer boards like this where people strongly disagree with me....it provo...

Re: Field Trial Ponderings
How many dogs would a guy need to own to be line breeding within ones own Kennel? When you go outside your Kennel I assume you limit yourself to related dogs, hence the patch groups, black creek groups etc. Once these guys outcross out of the family do you eliminate them from breeding considerations...

Re: Field Trial Ponderings
SR Patch, This is my general thought on breeding....explain where I go wrong...I know it's not personal with you. When you breed two superstars it's hard to get pups that are better because the bar is already set extremely high. Of course if you breed two average dogs the chance of getting a pup tha...

Re: Field Trial Ponderings
Ray, I agree so long as their is no funny stuff going on. The concern I see in all associations is the lack of new participants. 80% is same guys with same group of judges that are judging the same batch of dogs most of which come from the same group of Kennels. I dont have any brilliant solution to...

Re: Field Trial Ponderings
SR Patch, It would seem to me Field Trials favor an individual super star. It matters little how good your average is but how your best performs. Following your line of thinking what is the difference between breeding for the super star and breeding to improve the average? Are they synonymous? Do yo...

Re: Enjoying a pair of young dogs
Really enjoy the days when hare running good you can set up a fire and roast food while dogs run. Doesn't get any better. Keeps mosquitoes/horse flies away and provides some tasty treats....
