Dogs, especially beagles, howl for many different reasons. Perhaps sometimes it's from sounds that hurt their ears, but likely not. We live in the city and will have police/fire sirens set off a howl of a glorious magnitude. This is definitely not one of those times when it hurts their ears - they a...

Darrin, I believe there are 4 or 5 more installments of Diary of a Harehunter. Butch does an amazing job of putting the reader out in the woods (or in the donut shop, lol!) with the hunting party. Makes me wanna go northeast, too. Some of the scenery is just stomp-down gorgeous. I'm glad you're enjo...

Kennel Base
I've had some inquiries about our kennel base so I added a quick page with pictures of our pea gravel kennel base if anyone wants to have a look. We use both above-ground and ground kennels and this system makes clean up easy for both. I'll add more pictures down the road. http://www.americanbeagler...

Brewer, click on the picture of Emery's dog up in the corner and it will take you back to the home page. Once there, you will see two links; one for this message board and one under it for the chat room. We usually meet in there between the hours of 7-9pm EST. We talk until the last two people are r...

Brian, Grizzly Bear has basically the same pedigree as my Redd Man's sire. (and don't they look a lot alike?) Check out his pedigree on my hounds page and the paragraph I wrote about his running style. Last I heard Redd's sire was never trialed but was gunned extensively by his owner. Redd is also a...

Still don't have mine either. They mailed two days before Thanksgiving. Now it's up to the carrier as to when they will deliver them to everyone's house. My guess is they are delivering the Christmas Sale fliers and all the junk mail first, then they will wait for a light day to deliver the mags. I ...

Short times in the crate is best to start with. 5 minutes then let him out. Add some time each trip, then let him out. After a while, he'll learn that crate time isn't permanent and you can condition him to accept longer times if he knows there's an end to it. Crating up for a treat is a good way to...

I don't think any of us are so high and mighty that we couldn't tell about a time we did something impulsive or less than intelligent. I've done stupid things raising my children, driving my car - no facet of life is exempt from human frailty. It's embarrassing, but to put the pride aside and share ...

jon, there's no reason why your hounds won't quickly tune their noses in to snow the same way they tune their noses in on a hot dry day or a heavy frost, etc. One of our best snow hounds is the slick-haired Southern Kentucky-bred red dog of mine, Redd Man. We've found that given just a short time to...
