Re: hunting in north mississippi
I hope that you find a "hunting buddy" to enjoy the hounds and days afield. Some of my best memories are from running and hunting hounds alone. Too often, my buddy's dogs did not compliment mine and the reverse was true (peanut rollers vs medium speed dogs).

Re: Disappointed with quality of dogs
Seelow makes this post -"The best dog I've ever hunted with came from a trade day when was about 3 months old. He was a year old before he ever ran his first track. Sometimes I think they are like people. More famous after they are gone. But the dogs then would definitely beat those of today.. I wou...

Re: Disappointed with quality of dogs
In all probability, each of us can remember a grade dog which may not have even been a pure blood, but that was equal to or better that most of what we are feeding today. As we look back on dogs that we previously owned, we tend to remember their best qualities and forget their worst. For meat dogs,...

Alabama John writes: - Cheapest in long run and what most beaglers should do is to buy a dog you see do what you want. Forget breeding, training, shocking, all the disappointments, selling off what you don't want and your failures, feeding 5-8 times as many as you want to keep to be sure you get the...

Re: What makes a good reproducer, a good reproducer??
BCBeagles - You are right on the point about some Studs over riding both the strong and weak points of a female. AND.... the same is true of some females. IMO, neither the Sire or Dam of average dogs are considered to be producers. The pups must be equal as good, and hopefully better than, the Sire ...

Re: What makes a good reproducer, a good reproducer??
This question gives rise to a wide varity of opinions and answers, some formed by theory and others by experience. My opinion came by experience and has proven itself to be "tried and true" about 80 percent of the time. A good producer is only a good producer when it (he or she) is bred to another "...

Yesterday, it was 111 degree here and like some others, I lost three of my best Breeder Does to the heat. No relief in sight. Very discouraging!!!

Re: Front Dew Claws???
Most Breeders that I know remove dew claws from the hind legs but not the front ones. Removal of the front dew claws is considered a cosmetic thing and just for looks.

Summer heat and confort of the hounds
Keeping my hounds confortable in these extended days of near or triple digit temps is not so easy. Although they have plenty of shade, clean fresh water and fans that are running 24/7 in each run. They appear to be stressed somewhat by the heat. No doubt that lack of exercise contributes to the prob...

Re: How far back does a dog in a pedigree affect your dog?
The consensus of opinions among most breeders is that any dog past the third generation will have little influence. For instance, if a pup is not line bred or inbred for three past generations, it is the product of 16 individual dogs. Doing the math, none of the 16 dogs, on their own, can contribute...

I would have him checked by a Vet. It may possibly be a nerve condition brought on by stress or hyoeracrivity. Or perhaps Coccida or Giardi. Both being effecting the interstine causing loose fowl smelling stools. My Vet tells me that there is a small window of opportunity to reverse these problems w...

Re: DNA Profiling
For the sake of clarity: The statement ' a litter is DNA Profiled" implies that every pup in the Litter has it's DNA profile on file with AKC. However, in all probability, the statement actually means that the Sire of the Litter is DNA'd or perhaps both Sire and Dam are DNA'd. Very seldom will a Bre...

Re: Known Bloodlines
I do believe that one bloodline over another does not have a greater degree of immunity to this problem. As Rabbitsmoker stated, it is a common thing in all bloodlines unless Sarcoptic Mites are detected early and treated. Control and treatment is pretty simple and painless. Ivermectin (1% in streil...

Re: Deer breaking and pressure broke .
Greg - IMO you are offering a super good service at a most reasonable price. Anyone with a decent rabbit dog that will take a deer should not hesitate to spend another 100 bucks for your services. $100.00 would be cheaper than keeping a "deer runner" to pressure brake my own dogs. Trialers spend a l...
