Re: Tight mouth trait.
I don't have near the experience of most on this board, but my smaller slower dog constantly gets overpowered by my other and any we may run with and instead of making him tight mouthed, he won't shut the hell up. I can generally pick up when he's mouthing so everyone can hear him and he's trying to...

Re: I am switching to Sexton Bro's Feed
I used to use the Science Diet but switched to Nutro and dogs stay in shape on small amounts and there's little crap to clean up. But it always seems to be sold out at the three vendors nearby; I usually pick up 2 or 3 bags (for 3 dogs) whenever I find it in stock.

Re: Mysterious Bad Leg
My dog started using his back leg again on Friday (two days after I noticed the first symptoms) but he was still lethargic and burning up with a fever. I had some old amoxycillin from the last time he got stitched up, so I gave him one of those figuring it couldn't hurt until we got to the vet this ...

Re: Mysterious Bad Leg
I found your earlier post; thanks for the direction. After reading this, he has looked a little stiff in the rear while out running from time to time; I remember earlier this spring when somebody suggested I check his foot for a thorn or something during a trial and we didn't find anything. I always...

Mysterious Bad Leg
One of my dogs is acting odd and I wondered if there's anything I should look for. I went out to feed yesterday evening and one of my dogs is holding one of his back legs off the ground like it's hurt. He doesn't look his usual self (all slow and moping around, held held low). His kennelmate is a wh...

Re: ivermectin for labs?
It's the collie-type dogs you're not supposed to give it to. Having said that, we have an Aussie and the vet told me I could give it to him. I think (not positive) the side effect for collies/aussies/etc. is something along the lines that it weakens their defenses for treatment if they have cancer, ...

Re: house breaking a beagle
I have two male beagles. We crate trained them as pups and all went well. However, at about a year and a half old, the more dominant of the two developed the urge to start marking everything in the house and I wound up getting a kennel run outdoors for them.

Re: Good Hunt
Thanks Kyle, I plan on taking Hank down to the state hunt and then both of them the following week to Clinton. The earlier hunts this year only netted 1 & 4 rabbits, so the dogs were having fun on this outing. Kodiac, our season ends this Friday so the rest of the rabbits up there will probably get ...

Re: Good Hunt
bigjohn, The sad thing about all the deer management is the public land hunting is darn scary, especially opening weekend. Somebody got a monster with a bow up NE of Kansas City last fall and I heard that on opening day the nearest CA had people stacked about every 30 yards across the property bound...

Good Hunt
I didn't have much luck hunting this season up around KC; I think the summer drought messed up the population and the snow over the Christmas break allowed the jump shooters to clean out the rest on normally pretty decent public lands within an hour of the metro. I got lucky when my cousin invited m...

Re: Answer me this
I'm a credit officer (number cruncher) for the largest privately-held bank in Kansas City and have worked in commercial real estate finance all my career. As a kid, I grew up next door to my grandpa in Mid-Missouri and he always had a pack of dogs dogs with a little basset mixed in the bloodline. Th...
