Re: Run to catch
What do you guys say when you run with someone that claims to have "run to catch" dogs that have no control or check area? I enjoy the beagler's I've met the last 25 years in the Midwest but cant stomach the lack of control or flow to a race. I explored the UBGF dogs, raising 13 pups, nearly all dou...

Re: less rabbits
Wow....having an opinion is dangerous.
Nobody, including myself is questioning the quality of anyone’s hounds.
The reference to Dan was clearly in jest, not meant to harm anyone. I will step out of the way so everyone can agree.

Re: less rabbits
I would hate to see the local government get involved in when and where someone can hunt. I will not deny the public land in Wisconsin is low on rabbits but I challenge the idea the bar hunts have much if anything to do with it. Guys posting tailgates full of rabbits every weekend of the season are ...

Re: less rabbits
We've been down here for several years now due to these bar hunts every Saturday. 20 plus teams at 4 men/team shooting 12 rabbits/team. At the end of the day, they all get drunk and the majority throw the rabbits away. Wish the DNR would outlaw this. Here is a link where the numbers don't seem to b...

Re: Bloodline???
Hard for me to acknowledge a bloodline if one person isn’t making all the breeding decisions for 3-4 generations. I’m not a believer that dogs are Branko dogs if they weren’t bred by Branko, they’re not Northway dogs if not bred by Paul. They obviously can be heavily influenced by a bloodline but ag...

Re: Run to catch
My old time beagling friend told me once and I believe it to be true.....There are 3 types of rabbits.....Runners, Holers, and squatters. If you have dogs that can keep pressure on a rabbit without getting too far off line the runners and squatters are vulnerable. Few own dogs that consistently keep...

Re: people you can trust
Several really good pups get sold every year. MOST of the buyers don't put enough time into a pup to give it a chance to be good. Most get dumped in a kennel, pulled out at 6 months and taken to a starting pen, dumped back in the kennel and brought back out the first day of hunting season and it doe...

Re: Akc mid west
The question I always ask is......Are the hounds in my kennel full of desire, hunt hard, have a good nose and act sensible? Regardless of what association you run in there will be good and bad. Handle your own business and don't worry about what others run and it will serve you well.

Re: Summer feed
I feed Victor Nutra Pro. It’s a 38/18. Sometimes I get the Victor Ultra Pro that's 42/22. I supplement with raw meat and raw eggs that are straight protein. My dogs always seem healthy and strong into old age. I keep fresh water in front of them at all times including winter (heated water bowls). Pl...

Re: Need a class for oversize dogs?
When you take an assignment as a judge you have an obligation to take your time and measure as accurately as possible. I discuss measuring with my judging partner before we start to ensure we are on same sheet music. I ask my partner outright if he has a problem calling out oversized hounds, if so I...
