Re: Big Swamper Steaks for dinner
One other thing I forgot to mention, is the amount of oil you use. I find that if the oil, butter or whatever you use is over 1/8 inch deep you have a good chance of having greasy gravey. Other than that SR gives good advice.

Re: Big Swamper Steaks for dinner
In your hot skillet of drippings sprinkle in from 1 to 3 tablespoons of flour, add salt and pepper.Stir, when flour starts turning brown add milk. STIR, STIR STIR. When gravy is as thick as you like take off heat. Try a few times. You'll love it!

Re: Dew Claws
I've had many beagles with dew claws. I've had a couple that might catch them just right and bleed. Usually not even once a year. Never had to have them removed. I wouldn't fool with-em unless I had trouble.

Re: help with deer running
I've heard of tying a deer hide to dog and leave it till it rots off. I've heard of rolling them down hills with a deer hide, inside a barrel. Also have heard of putting them in a dryer (without a heat element) with a deer hide and let them go round for awhile. Never seen any of these but have heard...

Re: Small game getting gone.
I read an article about cat predation. House cat and feral house cats. It said they were the #1 predator of small mamals and birds. It said they actually kill BILLIONS of small mammals and birds every year. Scientists were advocating the need to eliminate all free roaming cats.

Re: Cedar bedding allergies?
I've put cedar chips in my dog houses over 40 years. Only thing it has done that I can see is give my dogs flea relief and make them smell good.

Re: Food agression
Alot of old timers said a dog that wouldn't fight for it's food wasn't worth owning and culled them. Only time they excused fighting. Seperate at feeding time. Most people advise that you do not shock fighting dogs as they think the pain is coming from other dog and fight harder.

Re: Why don't people use their real name?
When I first got on these forums they asked for something other than your real name. Once I used it one place I just used it everywhere so I wouldn't forget who I am. Orginally a cofidentiality issue(actually still is).

Sounds like someone wanted extra dog for the season. I sure wouldn't honor any extra gurrantee that I did not give.

Re: 13"
Simple thing to do is a stamina test. One way is go on a one week hunt with little dog and big dog. As a general rule big dog will outlast little dog.

Re: Would love to hear from seasoned beaglers
I'm 60 years old and I've had beagles since I was 13 except Navy time and about 6 years ago tried to quit but that only lasted a year. I've also had bird dogs and coon dogs along the way but have always kept at least one beagle that could circle a rabbit. My dad and uncle also had beagles well into ...

Re: Stolen Beagle Please Help!!!
I think beagles do have a little Houdini in them. Just recently I had one keep getting loose and the chain would be laying in the dog house. Bought new snap and no more loose dogs. I've had them loose collars, chains. shockers, you name it it has come up missing. I've actually had one that I was sur...

Re: Stolen Beagle Please Help!!!
I've had this happen quite a few times over the years. I would swear someone stole my dog. Then, when it was ready it would come home looking like a worn out dish rag from all the fun it had.

Re: houseing dogs
This weather is normal around here. Rough on very young pups or old and sickly dogs. With plenty of straw in dog houses, healthy dogs will be just fine.
