Re: Coccidia
I had 2 pups that I had shipped in come with coccidiosis. I had prescription meds from my vet for the pups, but one of my adult dogs got it. Obviously an adult dog can tolerate it better than a small pup. I used Amprolium (Corid) on him and my other dogs as a precaution. I had no problems after that...

Re: Too Cold For Me
Got tired of being a wuss and braved the elements today. It was -10 on a camp thermometer on a tree near where we went. Wind was gusting probably 25-30 mph. I would imagine wind chill was at least -30. Dogs ran, but it wasn't anything to write home about. They struggled, but kept getting the hare ba...

Re: Too Cold For Me
Been hoping I could get upstate to the Adirondacks for some running. Just checked the weather where I go up there and it's -25 without the wind chill at 9:30am. It was -1 here at home this morning with -11 wind chill. I think I'll just put another log on the fire and hunker down today. I could handl...

Re: Can't unload your gun early nowadays....be safe...not sorry.
It's a shame some in our society feel they can try to bully or intimidate with the threat of violence anyone who doesn't share the same beliefs as them. It's a crazy time we live in and we must realize that there are unstable people out there who I believe have become more emboldened by today's medi...

Re: Taxidermist
More than happy that you have him and are satisfied Paul. His dam could occasionally get a little nasty with a strange dog, especially if they sniffed or licked her rear, but normally wasn't real aggressive. Hopefully he will get over it with more exposure to other hounds. Good to hear about his pro...

Re: Taxidermist
Glad to hear Copper is turning into a nice hound Paul. I probably let his litter mate sister go too soon. I have let 4 young hounds go over the last 2 years and she is the one I feel may have been a mistake. I am very picky with the hounds I keep, but I probably did not give her enough time to matur...

Re: Field Trial Ponderings
I agree with you Dana. I certainly know more hunter/pleasure runners than trialers nowadays and i do know a decent amount of trialers also. Years back I fell into the hype of FC titles to a degree when looking for a pup, but I did see some offspring from most of those hounds run in trials and usuall...

Re: Field Trial Ponderings
Dave is right about over competitive hounds being a big impediment when running on tough snow conditions. At snow trials, in those conditions especially, it takes good judges to weed out the disruptive hounds and try and get a smoother pack if possible. In some snow conditions, it might not happen a...

Re: Field Trial Ponderings
Had a similar conversation with an old time beagler recently. He has hunted over beagles probably over 60 years and has trialed some for around 50 producing several FCs. He obviously has seen a lot in those years. He said he is just not seeing many of the type hound at trials he considers a total ho...
