Re: Seeking Northway Slim Jim breed hounds.
Hi Ryan , Good hound to mention. The run to catch style discussed here occassionally , Chewy would be the poster hound for. In his prime , He talked the talk and walked the walk. Have seen him dominate several packs and flat out catch the rabbit.

Big Running cottontails.
I don't normally keep track of total distance traveled by the hounds during a cottontail run , but this past Saturday evening had just cleared my Garmin when the hounds made a jump. This cottontail twisted out a few small circles at first , then procceded down a long hedge row out into an adjacent s...

Re: New judges in Mid-West
Chris 1971. In my area, often times an apprentice will be put with advertised judges at championship and qualifying trials. To place a note with your trial ad " Seeking newer judges to apprentice under our advertised judges , call fts to arrange " or have fts or even one of the judges make an announ...

Re: New judges in Mid-West
Always Accomplishment over style, always , provided that an unfair advantage is not being taken by the more accomplished hound. Its nice to marvel at a smooth stylist hound , but only in determining final disposition of hounds with equal accomplishment , should it be a determining factor.

Re: Charging Garmin collars while camping?
Get yourself a 1000 watt honda generator. Small and light. About the size of a 2 1/2 gallon fuel can. Super quiet. the db's of a refrigerator running. Runs for hrs on small amount of fuel. Charge everything and plug in small light string at camp. Best investment.

Re: Anybody have luck with solar lights for predators?
For an experminent , One of the members at our club purchased a single light and installed on a pole about 10' up. It was a section of grounds that would seldom hold a rabbit. Although the cover was decent , the mowed trails there were quite wide. Within several weeks of installing , noticed an occa...

Re: Blue Ridge Beagle Club Rabbit Hunt
Our rabbit hunt yesterday was what I would call a success considering. When entries closed yesterday at 8:00'am,The mercury was at minus 11. Despite the frigid cold and 24" snow pack, several hard core beaglers made their way into the woods and many others were no shows or cancelled due to severe co...

Re: hare bred hounds X cottontail bred hounds
Billy Boy - There are some out there producing decent hounds that way. I would call it hard hitting hounds -vs- more consertive hounds. Not hare -vs- cottontail nonsense thats talked to death. It comes down to a well rounded hound being best. . It is really just a matter of preference on speed. I kn...

Re: Cold
Plenty of hot water in food. Forces them to hydrate. Important. They are a very hardy breed and do well in the extremes provided are healthy. I ensure dry bedding, insulated housing , no wind exposure and bunk two hounds together. But on the coldest of nights (like tonight -10 with excessive winds p...

Big. It is my understanding , the main gentlemen who was working toward restoring the bft site , lost his daughter this past week. My condolences to Gene. Prayers for strength sent. I'm thinking bft is not a priority at this point. I can offer no further info.
