I dont see how the ARHA can be considered the "trial" expert. I read someone say their trials are the closest to gun dogs... An FC in the ARHA LP format makes FC with ONE win, and 100 pts... with 50 pts awarded for a single trial (big 4 or 5, cant remember). AKC forces a dog to win 3 different trial...

Rick G and Siver Zuk... IF you have paid your dues ($) to the AKC, and you have these questions and concerns, have you contacted the AKC to ask them directly? I've had to call the AKC twice in the past, and both times someone answered the phone... Can the others say the same? I'm not taking sides, b...

probably 25-30 or more so far. Some solo, some with 3-4, some with 8-10 dogs. Hard to kill them in thick cutover with no shooting lanes. still got 2 weeks left, so hopefully double that number. We really just got going once deer season went out. Sure have missed a bunch too! Saturday afternoon we ju...

what is a jump dog? A dog who can not only find the initial scent, but can actually get the bunny out of his cozy home and get him running in a short amount of time. Many dogs can get out and "strike", but cannot produce a running rabbit. A jump dog gets the rabbit running. What makes a better one, ...

Nice post Rick. I went to an ARHA trial once... and was told all I had to do was pay the $ to them on the spot and my dog could be arha registered... and yes, I was told there was a fee to register with ARHA, NKC, UKC. Probably $15 just like AKC. Kinda scary if you ask me. Now, I may have misunderst...

Did you run em at walmart? Or just re-stocking up on shells? Kidding, but you can see wally world in the background. in our cutover, I'd love to think a 45 minute run is long! We're lucky if its less than that. Oh well, we always have a good supply of off season runners. Looks and sounds like a fun ...

I think it depends.... 1. The first thing you NEED is a jump dog. If you cant jump the rabbit its hard to run/kill it. Not that killing is everything, but if the rabbit isnt jumped, its hard to run it. Hunt falls in this same category to me. I see all the time "hard hunting" but can the dog JUMP the...

Doesnt matter. We hunt nothing but THICK cutover, and 1000's of acres of it. As long as you have dogs that will push the rabbit, you will get shots. We run nothing but med speed, line control dogs. usually no more than 4-6 dogs at a time. Having said that, you CANNOT stand on the road and wait for t...

What about this one.... Hunting this weekend and talking with one of my hunting partners... I have a male who sometimes appears to be "babbling" or "being mouthy" when in fact he shouldnt be. HOWEVER, 4 out of 5 times, if given enough time, he will walk up the track, and jump the rabbit. Do I like h...
