Re: Running a pack on hare in deep snow

Budd and Norwester1 I have watched plenty of your videos of your hounds running on snow and have always appreciated their ability. You both have a ton more experience running on snow than I ever have or will. I haven't run on deep snow in 26 years since moving south. My description of what I prefer ...

Re: Run to catch

WARNING! Be careful. This is the danger season with the coyotes. It's been unseasonably cool here this week with with several frosts. Too good running weather to pass up and I've run every morning this week. Had just turned Josie and Fly loose and they were quick to jump. Hadn't gone 100 yards with ...

Re: Run to catch

Daddy Rabbit I'm using the same thing that Mike McPherson is mentioning above. It's a generic Drontal Plus that is being made in Australia [at least what I'm getting is ]. Most all of the dog suppliers are carrying it. I've ordered it from both Okie Dog Supply and Plum Creek Dog Supply. The vets. ar...

Re: Run to catch

Stay at this dog hunting stuff long enough and you're going to have some stories. I started hunting with my dad and his friends and their beagles when I was 13-14 years old in Jr. High. Then saved up my own money and got a retriever pup that I trained my self and did the up-land bird hunting thing t...

Re: Run to catch

Earlier this week I took three of the girls out for a run and left Queen in heat at home. Went to a spot I've been running for years now. It's probably 3-4 hundred acres. It's a peninsula surrounded by water. Got a rabbit up and they were circling him for about an hour which is about all the rabbits...

Re: Nursing Nine Pups

Last litter I raised she had 13 and raised 10 of them. I fed her all she wanted free choice. There is a U.G.O. near me that sells short dated discount groceries. I bought cottage cheese, beef liver and chicken livers and periodically mixed it in with Mom's chow. She had plenty of milk and stayed up ...

Re: Old bloodlines search

Hey Randy Birch Haven Bruiser was owned and campaigned by Jerry Blair from New Hampshire. Jerry was another guy that did a lot of Large Pack on Hare judging back in the day and would probably be a good source of old bloodlines info. I bought a female pup from John Hall back in 1993 that was sired by...

Re: Old bloodlines search

Hey Randy Ya, I like being retired pretty well myself. Usually run the dogs 3-4 times a week and the beauty is that you can pick and choose when. When I was working, Saturdays was about it so I used to run at night a fair amount. Hardly run at night at all nowadays except maybe in the summer when it...

Re: Old bloodlines search

Randy Osborne I don't know if john Hall is still keeping beagles or not. I used to have his contact info. but can't seem to find it. Even if I did it would be 25 years old.LOL. John was the official spokesman for the Vermont Fish and Game Dept. for many years. You might try them in Montpelier, Vt. M...

Re: Running a pack on hare in deep snow

For me a beagle ought to be up on legs, deep chested - not wide chested. They should be somewhat long bodied as opposed to short coupled. A short coupled dog has to run that much more. A beagle is a running hound and should have the appearance of athleticism and the physicality to run all day. Botto...

Re: Run to catch

A reminder. This is the time of the year to be vigilant when running. The coyotes will be having their litters and this is the time of year that they can be most aggressive and territorial. If your beagles get near a den while running you may very well get one chewed up or killed. I've had two beagl...

Re: Male spotting a little blood, also a little in urine?

You can buy several different anti - biotics through Fish MOX. I've used them with good results and a LOT cheaper than the vet. sells them for. Google them. I knew the infection I was treating so knew what anti - biotic was needed. Certain bugs need certain anti- biotics not all work on every thing ...
