Speed has been receiving too much attention, from the judges! It seems that every time there is a check it is blamed on the front running dog. Many SPO judges (at least in the PBGA) cut from the front. Checks are created by rabbits not front running dogs. The rabbits very survival is dependent on it...

GR, I live in Maryland but hunt in central PA mostly. I have a cross that you described above. I do have a male and 2 females from it. If any go over 13" they will be for sale. The male is out of Ranger Dan and Cool Running Sonic, he is clean and as hard a hunter as you will fine. He is not overly c...

That's how I've been starting pups for a year now. It seems to me that the grown dog will have more hunt if started early, just my thoughts and observations. One thing is for sure, the pups aren't under your feet when you take them out into the wild. I sold one the VaBeagler this spring, and at 3 mo...

I have hounds that had never smelled a hare until I threw them into a Large Pack trial. No problem with running hare, big problem with out of condition. Get them into condition! It is hard to do running on cottontail but condition them the best you can. As far as running out of hearing, that's not a...

I met Bev at the Futurity this year and as we were talking she asked me what my favorite format was. I replied ARHA, because of the way the roll the casts and judges. AKC seems to have more "buddy judging" with prearranged judges. Have I assumed correctly that the beef against Mace is his lack of ro...

I did have a mother and daughter that were 100% deer proof (they did run pheasants with my approval). I had 3 bitches out of the old dog and only 1 refused deer. I bred her and kept 3 pups and all of them ran deer. So, I have trouble believing there is a bloodline of naturally trash proof beagles. N...

$250 includes entry fees  In my case, the handler only ran the dog on Wednesday and trialed on Saturday. I was told it would take at least 6 weeks at that rate to condition the dog for large pack, so I've tried to do that myself, on cottontail (they say it can't be done). I'll see this weeken...

If it is AKC, is it SPO rabbit/hare or Large Pack on hare? Her breeding my indicate LPH. Normal handling charges are $250/month, at least that is what I was paying.

KanesIrish, No one told me, I used reasoning. I figured with the issues surrounding Striker, that there was a lot fewer breedings with Striker then there could have been. I will call / research this issue, but I'll still bet it was less then Ranger Dan by a bunch. With 9 pups at the futurity he must...

Coyote, You have a good point, but when quoting statistics, remember, "There are liars, darn liars and statistisians, in that order of magnatude!" There is no doubt Ranger Dan has been bred alot, therefore I thinks Argenteuil Striker must be considered, since he tied with Dan in 2003 and had alot fe...

I knew the title of this thread would catch your eye! :!: Gary what is the names of those Short's breed dogs you sent to the northeast that are placing in SPO and LP(?) trials. I want to keep my eyes out for them. :-o I want to see how POWERful they are. :?: I ask for humanitarian reasons, I don't w...
