Re: Fox Creek Lets Go Jake
Congrats to TJ for his win today at OHBC in Jackson, Ohio. I think Jake just needs one more to be an ARHA Little Pack Grand Champion.

Re: Breaking a beagle on deer

Re: Soloing a dog
... it's me and my pack against the hare and the environment. A kind of boy and his dog thing except I grew up (sorta) and it' s a bunch of dogs ;) The challenge of meeting a snowshoe hare on it's terms is where it's at for me and I'll do this for as long as I can or as long as there is a hare in t...

Re: Soloing a dog
... Dogs that are too pack minded tend to get dragged into all the trouble areas. And this is why I never solo. I want to know which dogs are too pack minded. Then I can cull them and be assured that they will never be a part of my breeding program. Sure, I might "fix" their lack of independence or...

Re: Soloing a dog
... If I have a dog that I am questioning what they are really contributing to the pack, I will pull them out by themselves and see for myself what is going on. Because it is just that dog out there, no one else jumping the rabbit, recovering the loss or keeping the chase going. So the only way you...

Re: Dissappointment at field trials?
The first thing that comes to my mind when i read these post is do you judge? Yes. I have found that the majority of judges are very competitive and also have a drive to know hounds. Usually the best judges have good hounds because they know what it takes to win and make a quality rabbit hound. The...

Re: Dissappointment at field trials?
I can honestly say with 100% certainty that any time if have ever turned a dog loose in competition and it lost, I was disappointed. Most of the time I am not upset. A lot of the time I am not shocked. But if I don't win, I am always disappointed. If I wasn't going to try to win I wouldn't enter a d...

Re: Soloing a dog
Oh, I also forgot to say . . .
I run a pack cause I got a whole lot I gotta prove and I can do it soooo much better with 20 dogs.
Kind of like how a bunch of eye rolls and extra "o's" prove I am sooooooooooo right.

I solo cause I don't need a pack to run a rabbit. Old Joe can run a rabbit all day by himself and he don't need no help like all those dogs those pack guys have to have just to run.

Re: Soloing a dog
I know how these Soloing threads go.by the dozens I've read in the past. And I may have it all wrong. But, it seems inheirently wrong to train a hound solo to prepare him for running in a pack. Sorry to jump in here Ray, but you forgot the rest. It seems inheirently wrong to train a hound solo to p...
