Re: Run to catch
Hey Tim I was very surprised that the run just kept going and going. I get plenty of cottontail runs that go 20-30 minutes and to a dozer pile, rock pile, tiles under the road or a variety of other type holes. The area I was running was a 60 acre weed and brier field and the cover is thick and that ...

Re: Run to catch
Run by myself 95 % of the time so got to share this with someone. Had about the best run on a cottontail today that I've ever had. Ran him for 3 hours and I'm not talking bawl and crawl either. The girls kept him running. I know the guys that run the slower hounds tell me they get 2-3 hour runs but ...

Re: Run to catch
Enjoyed a beautiful day in the Sequatchie Valley of Tennessee today. The Sequatchie Valley Houndsman's Association held a Large Pack Trial as a benefit to help the Lion's Club raise money to buy Christmas gifts for kids from families in need. This was the first trial I've run a hound, in probably 10...

Re: Papa and the grandkids, and Rabbithoundjb's 12 running dogs
Hate to see the old ones go. My girls are all getting some age on them now.
But I know you've got some young pups coming on. How are those Dan pups looking?

Re: Run to catch
I know that with today's technology many of the "old ways" are disappearing. I guess I've reached that age where I'm still hanging on to some of them. I know that most folks when they want their dogs to come in to them just hit "tone" on their electronics and holler for them. One of mine was out of ...

Re: Run to catch
Beagle Huntsman I need to revise my statement a little about hunting distances. I'd say the group of hounds we run hare with in the big north woods do tend to hunt out in the 100 to 200 yard range pretty regularly. It's not like we never see them. They know where we are and do check in as they hunt ...

Re: Run to catch
Warddog Back in the day I had a nice Bluetick coonhound male named Gunner. I bred him and ended up with a female out of him named Dee. Dee had been sent as a puppy to a friend in Oklahoma and when I lost a nice young female he let me have her back. She made a very nice hound. Problem was that when I...

Re: Run to catch
Hey Tim Been a while. Hope all is well with you and the beagles. I've heard that U.B.G.F. in some areas are now running a much stouter hound than they used to. When I moved to Tn. in '95 and through 2010 I ran on a W.M.A. in middle Tn. where a U.B.G.F. club ran and held their trials. I saw their hou...

Re: Run to catch
Well, anyone who's ever followed this thread and any of my postings knows that I'm originally from "up north" as my fellow Tennesseans remind me. I first got introduced to beagles and rabbit / hare hunting back in the mid '60's as some of my Dad's deer hunting buddies kept some beagles. Back then I ...

Re: Run to catch
Hey Daddy Rabbit
The bluetick in the middle of the first pic is a litter mate sister to Spit. There is another sister that isn't in the picture. Those two females have really made some nice rabbit dogs. The one in the pic has made a super jump dog and her sister is a front runner for sure.

Re: Run to catch
Hey Newt I just run them here as much as I can -- 3-4 times a week. I pretty much run my dogs year round, although not so much this summer as the heat and humidity kept me doing other things so they stay in pretty good shape. My females are all pretty athletic hounds, built to run and as a line have...

Re: Run to catch
Three big snow shoe hare.
These three gave us 6 hours of pedal to the metal running before we decided to take them. One gave them 3 hours and 14 miles , going out on several 1,000 yard [ GPS ] circles.
In my opinion no finer game animal exists to test your beagles.

Re: Run to catch
Just got back from 10 days hunting hare in The Great North Woods -- New Hampshire. We ran 8 beagles and they showed out like you'd want them to. Long hard runs with many going over the 2 hour mark and we had one that kept the dogs pounding for over 3 hours and 14 miles making a couple of circles out...
