Re: New spin on running solo
I start my pups in the wild with an old tattle tale gun dog.Once they are running good and any trash issues have been delt with.It doesn't hurt a thing to put them on the ground by themselves and do their own hunting, running and handling by themselves.Makes a more solid hound.

Re: New spin on running solo
No age,if you think you have a good young dog doing everything right.Take it out by itself and watch, might do great.Chances are if it has always been around other dogs it will act lost the first time or two.

Re: New spin on running solo
Mikka your right for the most part, the reason these solo threads get heated and long from what I've seen is there are two different opinions on the need behind it.One side you have guys that mostly trial the other side guys that mostly pleasure run and gun hunt with packs. If you trial you want an in...

Put a lot of them down because they had to many trash races and liked it.

Re: Breaking a beagle on deer
Let a dog stay out a night or two around here you might get your collars back if you have GPS trackers on them.Provided the coyotes don't eat them too.But that's one way to do it,it will break them from deer for sure.

Re: Soloing a dog
Some of the roughest over the top competitive hounds I've ever seen had been soloed to death. Also seen some that were good but were ok with slotting up and running with the pack that were never soloed or not soloed much most likely would have been much better hounds with more confidence and edge to ...

Re: I finally discovered my problem.
I've got a buddy that's going to let me have his old broke gyp that's seven years old. I will get a tracking system too. Right now just use that old broke dog to check them and then smoke their hides if its trash. If you have an old dog that you trust and will come out and tell on them when it gets...

Re: I finally discovered my problem.
For me an older clean running tattle tale dog along with e-collars has all but eliminated my trash problems with young dogs. Most will try once or twice.Once you have a known deer runner setting them up is the only way I know of to break them.Sounds like you are getting on top of it.The old saying "I...

Re: How old is too old????
I gave a runt male pup to a neighbors little boy as a pet once.He stayed in a fenced in yard his whole life. When the dog was about 4 they asked me if I wanted him back. The boy didn't play with him anymore and the neighbors wife wanted to reclaim the back yard.He liked to dig A LOT and their yard was...

Re: Female losing top end speed after having litter of pups
I don't think it's true.I've had a few that I thought were that way.It took 4 or 5 mos.before they got back to where they were before they were bred.Others were back to their old selves in a month or two. They all bounce back different. The quicker you get them back in shape and get muscle back on the...
