Hunting swamps with a lot of water, a coldtrailer will just call all the other dogs to it and stop them hunting. (Ever notice they all seem to have good calling mouths!) Around here over the years, there have been many Beagles bred with shorter ears and some even stood up to a point.
Never had trouble with those ears bleeding and they got in the thick and jumped a lot of rabbits. Along with those type of ears seems to come a high pitch mouth as a bonus too.

I'm surprised that no one I know of has bred for a shorter tail! Some have bred for shorter or longer ears, why not tails.

Lot of what you like has to do with what type or terrain you hunt in. Those of us that hunted mainly in swamps didn't get our dogs tails bloody. They hunted differently too.
