Re: Speed Running

0 or 1 traditional brace more like 0.To me a 10 would be big 15 + in.males on hare in the open woods.Hard to apply that kind of foot to a dog running a cottontail.Fox hounds or deer hounds would be the closest thing I can think of in the south with that kind of foot.

Re: Alot of Rabbit hunting land gone around here.

Most of my good running and hunting spots are now tied up in hunting leases.Over the last several years it has become common for land owners to do duel leases on their property. They lease it for farming and also lease it for hunting.Or guys that farm themselves will lease out the hunting rights.Can'...

Most I've sen like that have some etra mouth in the kennel also.If he does put a collar on him in the kennel and when he starts barking holler hush at him and give him a good jolt. You don't have to fry him.Enough to make him yelp and go in the dog house is plenty. Also with the garden hose hush and t...

Re: Superior Intelligence - A nice compliment for any hound!

The place I mostly run is open to the public for about 6 mos. of the year for running.Field trials are conducted year round. No hunting allowed. The rabbits there have been run to death and know every trick in the book. They are the worst for doubling back of any I've ever seen. They all do it like it's...

Re: has trialing beagles today. changed from past ones.

I think it's changed for the better.I'm old enough to remember when the old time beaglers, the guys that bred and raised gundogs in this region considered anything that was registered or out of registered hounds junk. There was a long period of time the only AKC registered hounds that were bred for co...

Re: Formats - most conservative to less conservative?

Anyone seen the ARHA Gun Dogs run? No clubs in this area,I've seen some video of them. They seemed like they had real decent foot with excellent line control.Very few checks and those were short.Kept a lot of pressure on the rabbits.Any other formats out there close to the same? I've had several peop...

Re: Breaking a beagle on deer

Use to be a guy south of Louisiville that had a 5 a starting pen that kept a billy goat in it.He had a 10x10 kennel in it with an opening just big enough for a beagle to get through and a couple of dog houses. If one got after the goat it would run until it found a good clearing then it would make a ...

Re: Here's two reasons I do this.

When my girls were little they would have pups in strollers with doll clothes on pushing them all over the place. Some of the best pups I ever had as far as their temperment and handling when they got older.Good pictures.
