Re: Tone Training
I trained mine by toning them before I shocked them for handling purposes. If the dog is smart it will learn what comes after the tone and start coming back when they hear the tone. It is rare now that I have to shock them to get them to handle for me. If they are running off game don't tone them. J...

Re: Beagle magazines.
I get Better Beagling. American Beagler is primarily UKC stuff. I'm not sure about the rabbit hunter. Hounds and Hunting has both traditional brace and gundog stuff. I got BB because it has stories in it besides trial stuff. Not saying other ones don't just the one I liked best.

Re: Is it just me or is foot over rated?
Personally I have never seen a real fast one that ran with any kind of control or check work. The ones I have seen cause the checks then will pick it wherever they can. I seen that happen 50 yards from the point of loss. I run a medium to medium fast dog. They have checks but will go back to the poi...

Re: T-REX
Personally I prefer a tight mouthed dog over a mouthy one. Can't stand it when a dog barks out its butt. One of the most important traits I look for is a mouth I can trust and no I don't own any t-rex dogs.

Re: Cattle tags for ticks & fleas
When I first started using the purple tags I researched them online. If I'm not mistaken the purple ones were tested on dogs and found to be safe. There is several different colored tags varying in strength. I use the purple ones because they were deemed safe for dogs.

Re: Cattle tags for ticks & fleas
I cable tie about three quarters of the tag on the dogs collar. Never take them off. That is a good point by Jude. It is an insecticide so I never put them on house dogs or dogs that children handle.

Re: ElimiTick Clothing
I believe it works. He never has ticks on him while deer hunting and I am always covered. The only reason I haven't bought it is because it don't come in Real tree camo. Lol

Re: ElimiTick Clothing
My brother wears it bow hunting. We put a tick on it to see what it would do. It jumped off. He hasn't had trouble with ticks since.

Re: running in off season
Run in pen in off season more so than in wild. Not by choice but necessity. Agree that rabbits definitely run different in pen. I think its much harder for a dog to stay on a rabbit that has been run a hundred times than one that has been run a few times. Negative is dogs get lazy and will walk mowe...

Re: Dew Claws
I have dogs with the dew claws removed and some that still have their dew claws. I haven't noticed any difference between the ones that do and don't. I believe it is more of a preference thing.
