Re: 2009 Indiana Youth Rabbit & Squirrel Hunt
The Indiana Department Of Natural Resources has been trying to close all state properties for running beagles "outside of hunting season". The Indiana Beaglers Alliance was the "only" one fighting for our rights to run beagles on public grounds.
For those of us who are sporting dog people the announcement that Mark Rieter is the “new” head of Fish and Wildlife in Indiana “does not” come as good news. Fact is this is without doubt the most fatal thing that has happened to us since Glenn Lange was the head biologist for the Fish and Wildlife. Mark Rieter in past years has consistently proven himself “not to be” a friend of the sporting dog community. Fact is he has shown over and over again that he’s, in fact, solidly against dogs in the field. He was right there at the top with Glenn Lange when they attempted to close dog training from Feb. 28Th thru Oct.1 of each year several years back. He has consistently opposed extended hunting season for squirrel and Rabbit, opposed Field trials on state lands, and at every turn has voiced opposition to sportsman's opportunities to enjoy the use of their sporting dogs in the field. At this time we may have the saving grace of our IDNR director Rob Carter being an avid sportsman and he has said that he looks for more opportunities in the field instead of less and our current NRC advisory committee Chairman, Patrick Hurley has voiced the same sentiment in recent conversations with the Indiana Beaglers Alliance. We will be contacting several leaders of other sporting dog groups in the next few weeks so we can meet to discuss Mark Reiter’s appointment and schedule a group meeting with Mr. Rieter to discuss our concerns. Should you have interest in attending a meeting both collectively and with Mr. Reiter please feel free to email Jack Hyden, President Of Indiana Beaglers Alliance indianabeaglersalliance@yahoo.com
Beaglers in Indiana need to support youth events like this. Support from sportsman shows character. Guys don't give people like Mark Rieter, Head Of Fish & Wildlife ammunition to use against us in the future. Its only one day out of the year guys, give a little

We still need a number of dog handlers and a few mentors. It would be nice to get these spots filled prior to hunting season getting into full swing. We still need more help!

Re: 2009 Indiana Youth Rabbit & Squirrel Hunt
We’ll, were getting the youth to sign up, were breaking even with mentors at this time, help in the kitchen is going well, dog handlers for the afternoon squirrel hunt are coming nicely, but the dog handlers for the morning rabbit hunt are a little behind the rest.
I just want the Hoosier Beaglers to really know how important it is for us to support youth events in Indiana. The bellow message was emailed to me on September 17, 2009 by Jack Hyden, President Of Indiana Beaglers Alliance.

With the above information being known, we need to do it “bigger & better than the rest”. Supporting youth events like these makes us look much better in the eyes of the public when we stand “toe to toe” with IDNR on issue of dog training, field trialing, and hunting. We don’t come across as just being selfish and wanting just what’s best for ourselves. We’re in it for the youth & the future to. To make these youth hunts a success, we need more dog handlers and we can still register about 15 more youth for both hunts. Help your selves out guys, register as a dog handler today.
