beagle bitch with diabeties

My 7 yr old female was just diagnosed with diabeties. It came on just like that about 2 months after her first litter.Does anyone know of anything to do to help her. The shots are just out of the question as the vet said she couldn;t hunt even with them . She lives to hunt.Any thoughts? Thanks so very much!! CVT
