dogs not eating. Help!!

Post by kyhunter »

I've got 2 beagles, 1 3yrs old and the other is around 6 months. Both had been eating oroys premium dog food good but turned there noses up at it a few days ago. I bought some purinia dog chow and they ate that for a couple of days but now when I feed them they just smell of it and go back into there boxes. They seem to drink water ok and they look health but will not eat the food. Going to try a different brand tomorrow but thought I would see if any of you had any ideals. It's been a long time since I've had dogs so I'm lost when somethings wrong.

Go back to your original dog food. You said that they ate it just fine before. There are a couple of possibilities here...

1. The bag of food may have gone bad/gotten stale or moldy. Try a new bag of what you were originally feeding. Don't switch dog food so often, it can give them an upset stomach which can amplify the problem you are seeing.

2. The dogs got a bug or something like the flu. If they don't eat by 3-4 days, then a trip to the vet is in order. My first beagle was a skimpy eater. She would sometimes go 3 days without touching her food. Then on the 4th day, it didn't make it to the bottom of the bowl when she was fed.

Just keep your eye on them and make sure that they have plenty of clean water to keep hydrated. If they become sluggish, call the vet and seek help from the professionals.

Best of luck,
Emery

I got another bag of the Ol Roy but the dogs still would not eat it. I then added hamburger to it and they both ate the hamburger and the pup ate some of the Ol Roys with it but the 3 yr old would not. I feed them a couple of days some gravy mixed in with the dry food and again they lapped up the gravy but only the pup ate some of the dry food. Tonight I tried some of the soft pack Ol Roys and both dogs ate it good.

Looks like I have some mighty picky beagles.
